Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

depends on a lot of things

a worn out 20 odd year old engine

wont be too fast if it holds togeather

a fully tuned well set up engine with the right gearing will take you to a shade over 140 MPH

0 TO 60 in under 3.5 seconds

Shropshire.

bit of an open ended question.. depends on many factors, e.g wheel size, weight of car, fuel etc etc.

And the amount of money you are prepared to spend!

Allow at least £3,000 to get started with something half decent.

Assuming a std metro engine spec (in good condition!!! and well setup!!!) and 13" wheels, the performance figures for the ERA turbo should be pretty close.

according to this link 0-60 7.8sec, top speed 115mph,

i think you'll find most people gear their cars for about 120 just because this gives the best all round performance, with a 2.7 diff and 13" wheels and 200 bhp you could get silly speeds.

I personally think about the 120mph is the top speed achieveable in a mini, purely for aerodynamic reasons.

interesting calcs there Ben!

the way the power needed ramps quickly seems to fit with the speeds i've heard of. i think 120 is a little consevative but 130 is about as much as it's likeley to see and Bens figure seem to support this.

I had my car pulling a 7500rpm limit ( Crane ignition ) in 4th gear, 3.1 diff with 165/65x13 NCT2 Goodyears.

Thats a tad more than 120mph *wink*

Admittedly that particular time was downhill, but over quite a short distance before coming to a roundabout. the actual stretch of road is about 0.75 miles between 2 roundabouts. Up a steep hill, then down again.

On the flat, it would easily pull 7000rpm in around 0.75 miles ( another road *happy* )
It would pull beyond 7000 in 4th on the flat, although I never tried it very often.

I once raced an Escort Cossie ( new cars back then ) once over a distance of about 2 miles up the motorway lol...I just kept pulling and pulling...was quite funny.
He was amazed....although not so amused when I asked him what was wrong with his car afterwards lol

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

120 mph you must be talking about the 1/4 mile

with 163bhp my car will lose the battle with the air at 132mph- according to very accurate prediction software - what miniwilliams or jimsters would do on "long" gearing is more than your underpants could stand in a Mini!

If Carling made Mini engines
it would probably be like this one!

am i right in thinking 0-60 times are limited to grip? especialy with smaller wheels?

I took the KAD demo car round Combe on a mini day many years past , it was easily the quickest car there , that read 125 on speedo in 4th but wouldn't pull that in 5th [ dont know what diff they were running , or if the speedo was anywhere accurate ] but that gives good indication of brick like airo. !!

Im not sure what mine does in MPH but i know it can wind out to 200km/h maxed out and running 12psi on 13" wheels with 2.9 diff. It very scarey car tho when i get over 160 ! (which i think about 100mph?)
I remember it doing 140km/h in third when i watched it on dyno.

1975 MkIII Morris Mini 1300 Turbo, 100bhp...if only it could run long enough to drive it legally!
