My metro turbo has a really good toad immobiliser. Its one of them ones where the keyring has to be in proximity of the car for the car to start.

Ive been trying to work out how its fitted, but i dont really understand it! how to immobilisers work? What do they cut off? theres no modifications to the back of the ignition barrel or anything. Theres no alarm box under the bonnet or anything, do you know where they are usually fitted?

When i fit it to the mini, whats the best place to fit it? i still cant work out what it disables, is it the trigger wire that goes to the starter or something?

thankyou for any help or advice u can give me

Hi,
How to steal a car..... Remove the steering column cowl, round the hole for the ignititon switch you should find the aerial wire.
This is how it detects the keyring.
Follow this wire to the immobiliser unit behind the fuse box (probably)
From here you will find all the wires are black!
Get out your test light and start testing. Most units kill 2 or more circuits, starter is the obvious one, then the ignition, feed to the coil, depends on how lazy the fitter was.
Test the wires, label them, then disconnect and repair the vehicle wiring.
Now fit to your Mini, reverse the sequence to install.
Job done.
Most likely easier to go to your local alarm place and get a new one fitted to your Mini for about a ton *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)
