I had a potential brow-trouser moment last night; when the 'front to back' brake line on my F150 blew apart... Not split / weeping, but 100% separated. Never again will i accept complains or moans about MOT tests LOL!

Anyways...
The brake pedal on my truck had the slightest resistance about half-way, but I pushed straight through this and bottomed out on the floor. Luckilly, I was on my land at the time, and a tree volunteered to aid my stopping. *laughing*

So - am i right in thinking that this 'dual circuit' did NOT do what it was meant to do - ie it looks like the master cylinder is also at fault?

I had a rear system failiure on a metro. (The rear wheel cylinder decided to come off the backplate after a series of massive chavy handbrake turns... i had to jack the car up remove all the handbrake bits that had gone round and round inside the drum the drive 20 miles home at 3 am)

anyway on the metro IIRC one pair of front pistons (one each side) have a circuit and the other pair share with the rear.

I had virtualy no braking and the pedal went to the floor apart from getting slightly harder about 5mm from the bottom, but if you went slow enough ie less than 20 it was enough to slow and stop the car as long as you didn't need to emargency stop.

Hi,
I think the problem could well be the pressure differential valve. As this doesn't normally move it sticks / seizes then when you need it the most it lets you down!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Nasty!

Could it be perhaps that the US spec does not require US vehicles to have split lines like UK stuff? Just a stab in the dark as I do not know the differences between US and UK safety laws?

Hi,
Dave, it maybe "built" into the master, two seperate pistons with a spring inbetween.....
Cheers,
Gavin :)
