Hi,
Ben .. This was in the motorcycle press about 3 months ago.
I completly agree.
[Rant]
I doubt we'll see any cameras removed, nor more traffic police, whose numbers have been drastically reduced since the cameras went up.
Unfortunately they haven't invented a camera that nicks shit vehicle operators. I won't call them drivers as this is an insult to people who can drive.
[/Rant]
As someone once said you can use stastics to prove anything!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Speed camera's are just road side money boxes. At least they are clearly visible now.

The ones that annoy me are the vans, there always about in a town near me, if anything there a distraction because I find my self looking at the side of the road all the time instead of actually getting on with the more important aspects of driving!

I read an article about "speed control traffic lights" that are being used in Spain/Portugal. If is senses someone speeding the light up the road just turns red and stops them, Apparently it doesn't take them long to realise that the lights stay green if they keep to the speed limit... I guess we will never see that, no profit there...

In the States its much better on the camera front but some traffic light camera's are appearing in my area, and they are really sneaky, Tiddly litlle sign 200yds short of the light, On the ones near me I recon that they get a "Nick" about every second light change, mostly from out of state drivers who don't have a clue its there

what a goldmine...

only people that pay for the speed cameras and the maintenance of them are the dickheads that get caught going through them too fast ..... not sure how they do it big flurescent box at side of road = check speed and slow down......not rocket science 9 times out of 10 it is the ones that have been caught going through em that are bitter about em. i personally think they are a good idea, infact a fairly simple idea would be to fit all cars with transponders that if removed imobalised the engine. then you would have a trigger transmitter at say a 30 mph sign once the car goes past this trigger the transponder onboard would limit the car to the correct safe speed.... less deaths ie school kids getting plowed down ? that of course will never happen. but if it does you saw it here first :)

one thing ive always wanted actually, is for speed cameras to have the speed on them. Maybe a large sign joined to the post like a big 30 sign or a big 40.

One thing i hate is people slowing down to 30 through 40mph speed cameras etc

My opinion is, that if you get caught you have nothing and noone to blame but yourself.

The LAW says that we must stick to speed limits. If we choose to exceed these limits, which most of us including myself may do from time to time, we must be ready to accept the consequences with good grace.

Yea ive always thought they should have the speed limit on the back of them, ive lost count of how many people have jammed there brakes on in a 60 limit to slow down to 40 or even 30 sometimes!

Speed limits are getting slower as technology is getting more advanced, its crazy!

Who says speed limits are too fast anyway, a driver that is young and had 5 or so years on the road would have much better reactions than an 80 year old but they can still legally do the same speed, how does that figure.

Now the evenings are getting darker ive noticed average speeds dropping to about 40 (in a 60 limit), mainly because of drivers having bad vision I guess, they cause massive tailback which can be just as danagerous as they constantly jam there brakes on every time they have to dip there lights.

We should start a campaign then for speed limits to be put on the cameras! i have to admit i sometimes slow down to 40mph past the 60mph ones if im unsure, just incase ive missed the half leaf-covered 40mph sign just before it

suppose if you managed to miss every lamp post with the restricted speed sign on it too....... must be a real bushy town you live in roflmao........as for your initial response to mine, if i get caught it is tough noogies but that is my mature opinion, perhaps it is due to long periods of scraping up dead people who have been going too fast...perhaps in a sick way iam lucky *wink*

With comments like these you deserve to get caught!! Not always as black and white as speed cameras in a 30. It is the money making low life scum that are Wiltshire's Safety Camera Partnership who did me for my incredibly dangerous 83mph on

a dual carriageway (A303) using a hidden tripod type camera trap (no van!!!) And blemished my 21year old clean licence. My laser, radar GPS detector also failed to pick it up as it was hidden behind a bridge and was aimed at the rear of the car. The detector faces forward!

A reliable source tells me that it actually costs more than £60 to fine someone ie by the time you weigh up the costs of the camera, letter, postage, wages admin etc. Not saying i believe them and it doesnt mean i like cameras either! My first turbo have you never been driving then and thought to yourself 'is it 40 or 30 through here'....

speed cameras are a night mare, drivers legaly within speed limit still brake and slow down, weather they no the road or not, some cameras have sencers to detect the size of vichicle being driven, how many no that a hgv is only aloud to do 40mph on a standard A road, 50mph on a dual carageway, in the last 6 months i have driven over 90,000 km in a brand new truck, i prefer more police on the roads, due to arse holes who think they own the roads, pet hates are, midle lane hogers, you leave a gap for saftey car comes flying in slams on the brakes then turns left up slip road. i now been driving for over 30 years the pleasure not the same, there were still nuters in the early seventys, just sem there a lot more now, but i am not perfect i got 3points for speading, yes i make mistakes, but my own vechicles are safe, taxed mot and over insured

Speed limits in my opinion are outdated. 70mph on the motorway for example, this limit was bought in when most cars on the road were 100e anglias (and the like) with single leading shoe drums all round so stopping distances were obviously an issue. Brakes are obviously far more advanced now which i think should allow an 80 or even 90mph limit on mways and certain dual carriageways. This obviously doesnt take into account the ridiculous number of people on our roads now but hey its just my opinion. As for cameras, dont like them much esp when they are obviously not in an accident black spot but if it saves a few kids lives every year then they cant be that bad.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

I have been doen for speeding twice, once by a copper and a camera.

The camera was in a temporary speed limit which was only about 200m long past some road works on a country road and I was niced at 3:58am on a Sunday morning. and I was doing 46 in a now 40 limit (normally national limit)

The other time I was done by a copper on the M42. I'd just dropped my uncle of at the airport and was driving back in the Porker doing something like 100 on a totally empty motorway at about 3am. The copper in an unmarked Cossie tried to push me a little but I didn't respond and cruized down to 70ish then he hit the lights. After the usual "your car sir ..." chat he let me off as long as he didn't have to speak to me again that night. He then followed me to the junction I was leaving at and that was that.

Now I consider both of those about as dangerous as each other (i.e. not at all) and it seems a copper agrees but a machine doesn't!!!!

That is my problem with cameras, a machine can not see the whole situation where as a person can.

I am all for them outside schools and hospitals etc. but when there are behind a tree on the open road what is the point?!?!?!

More coppers on the road and less cameras and maybe driving standards would increase (by every BMW and Merc driver being locked up for a start *wink* )

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Hi,
I've never been nicked by a camera. I still think they are crap.
The government has now almost admitted they're a failure; accident rates have gone up at most sites, many court cases proving inaccuracy and so on. There's also talk of more traffic police on the roads, that suits me fine, should help get the banned / no insurance idiots off the roads.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

nope..........if it is 40 it will tell you by use of repeater signs....no repeater signs and a network of street lamps = 30mph simple !

there isnt going to be more cops persay...but one big highways agency. these dudes will help deal with the accidents freeing up the cops to educate and enforce motorists, a fantastic idea !! dont know where ure figure are from re crashes increasing at blackspots and cameras failing ? in my area alone accidents have been reduced by an average of 30% since the intro of these. and that is a figure measured against an evergroing population of motorists. There is this stigma of "money making" the offending public pay for the maintenance of cameras not the tax payer. the remainder of money after paying for upkeep goes to engineering safer roads and other initiatives for road safety, and in turn actually helps lower tax costs it is our greedy government who do not lower the tax to compensate. all folk like to gripe when they have done something wrong and it is always easier to blame something else ! my advice would be dont speed saves you money, petrol costs and perhaps your life ? contrary to belief travelling at 100mph is dangerous, as is speeding through a temp speed limit..the limits are set for safety ie workers on the road etc etc. lets just all adopt a mature attitude respect that these cameras are hear to stay. accept them for their good intentions and drive safely dudes.

i think less camras, more police!!! people wouldnt no where to exspect them unlike some speed camras, also they have a little understanding 100 at 3am on an empty motorway isnt that bad, copared to how some max-power fans drive!!. Thats who they should be after. this realy annoys me!! im a young-ish driver (20) i dnt have a problem with being pulled over and asked for a producer/ alachol test or just because i look a little shady. there are alot of idiots around and there only doing there job. i however have a problem when they are rude and try to intice an argument with me. just because im younge doesnt mean that im a prick, (it has no relationship with my age).
