First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

unfortunately my turbo shaft has gone a bit wobbly this year, i presume this is the result of me not running a dump valve

finances are extremely stretched at the moment, so im planning to rebuilt it myself

is this the right sort of kit:
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Garrett-T2-T25-T28-R...5QQcmdZViewItem

however mine is fitted with a 360deg bearing, will i be able to reuse mine, or am i best off contacting the seller to see if they can do me a kit with one

thanks

about your 360's look carefully if it isn't marked it'll can be reused.
what do u mean by "a bit wobly" does it have really much play or not so, which boost are u using?

it has considerably more play than i would like (up and down), and i know that it has got worse over the year

infact i must find it, ive put it somewhere safe in the garage....
ill see about pulling it apart over the next few weeks and seeing how it looks

ive been using 18psi so far

Nic I think you're turbo is overspinning, at 18 psi you should have something like 160/170 bhp and a bog std r5 unit it is out of breath and revs.
you can pm me you're turbo specs, if I can help I'll do

Hi,
Fab .. What's the maximum boost (psi) you would recommend for the standard R5 unit?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

std r5unit isn't efficient over 15 psi,and out of breath at 150 bhp, evidently you can overspin it but it'll wear quicly and will charge inefficiently

ps, the kit i can get hold of is supplied to turbotechnics so cant be of bad quality!!

I ended up buying a core though, works out easier! but i am lazy! lol!

i would measure your radial movement with a dti, if it wasnt smoking i'd be tempted to leave it well alone.

don't know if you are familiar with turbo dismantling but don't forget to mark the wheels alignment BEFORE to disassemble , if you're not doing the balance will be wasted
