I want to fit some higher wattage bulbs to my head lights say 100w, what mods will be needed if any, will the fuses need to be up rated or will they be sufficient.

Many thanks
Chris Barkas

Hi,
You've got 2 choices;
1. Try it and see, your column switch may melt over a period of time.
2. Fit relays to dip and main beams.
As for fuses, once you've fitted the relays, they wont be a problem.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Relays needed or else you'll melt the headlight switch.

Did this with mine...and it will melt the switch.

Some of the fancy expensive PIAA bulbs that run at lower wattages are supposed to be very good.
They have a low rating, but give out much better light apparently.

speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

don't most mini's have relays fitted?

my 83 mayfair does and they don't look like they've been added.

it's also fitted with 80/100W bulbs been in there for the 3 years i've owned the car and fook knows how long before that.

have a look for some relays, mine are right by the brake master, 1 for mains 1 for dips.

the high wattage bulbs REALLY make a difference.

No minis have headlight relays, the only relay they do have is for dim-dip, someone must have done a neat job of adding them on your car.
