Near Daventry, midlands

is the spring flat when assembled? I've never seen a clutch setup be right from new parts, they always need to be machined.

I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

which cam are you using?
when you are talking about machined, flat or moded?
is it machined for correct heigh to be flat , machined to be flat then leave what Dave recommend to compensate distortion, or just machined from 22...to 21...??
t2 clubby 165lb thru a grey is good! what's moded in your palte?
how did you set your?

Fab, mine is machined to 23.5mm so that the spring sits flat when assembled, before this it was slipping at only 140ish llbft..... I'm expecting it to slip again when I next up the power...

yup, me and T2 clubby both got our backplates machined at the same time as his was slipping so we modded them as per dave's guide on the MM site i think it was, lugs down to 23.5mm and the spring sits nice and flat. only using 2 driving straps and a single grey with one of these plates http://www.minispares.com/Product.aspx?pid=38317
both of us were running 165lb/ft at avon and had no clutch issues.

As you say ben you've either got too much torque for a single grey, or you've been riding the clutch like a granny...lol *laughing*

Hmmm - if you're using three straps, then you need around another 0.7/0.8mm off the lugs to take this into account. 23.5mm works for two (six total) straps. If - for whatever reason - you want to run three straps, then it needs more taking off.
Personally - I'd just run two straps.

I also assume you're running the AP Rally Plate, with the dark grey, not the light brown friction lining?

However - this is not too suprising in reality; a 1380 makes more curly-wurlies than a nat-asp. Add a turbo to it and it multiplies to this already increased curly-wurly factor to make a shed load more curly-wurlies; And it's curly-wurlies, not bananas that will find the limit of a clutch.

I noticed when I ground Wolfies lugs down that the nearly new backplate was approx .010"concave ,if viewed from the lug side.
Checked by standing it on the lugs on a surface table and running a clock underneath.
Don't know how much effect that would have on the grip level, but I think it distorts due to the heat of it slipping
