I've just done my first ever valve seats. My machinist had injured his shoulder so I had to have a go myself.

The result:

Rather satisifed with this. I didn't insert the hardened valve seats myself though, but I did grind them. that was a time consuming job compared to freshening up the inlets even if they were not three angeled from the factory.

This really makes a difference to performance.

Thansk :)

If you guys look very hard you can see the K-line valve guide insert in the exhaust guide. It's a shame these don't exist in 7,12mm. At least as far as I'm aware. The head in the pictures is a B-series 18V head.

Four angle seats. But, the exhaust insert was ported after this, so most of the uppermost material was removed, and blended into the undercut.

Looks a nice job, well done. Is there any way to tell if a valve seat is hardened just by looking ? i have a head sitting in the garage and dont know if i should be running it on unleaded or not.

a very clever bronze insert, only a few thou wall thickness, just ream out the exisying guide and litterally tap them down in, they are spring loaded so stay put , then just hone out to size, these are a fantastic product as you dont have to keep replacing the guides and risking it not sitting in true, and having to completely recut the seat, especially good if you have a proper race head with narrow seats as only the minimal seat cutting is needed to make good,

Good work! the trick when using a grinder to cut the seats in those hard inserts is to rough them out on a lathe first before fitting the inserts to the head. Just be careful and use soft jaws as they are very brittle and ive cracked several!

I know. I didn't make a 45 degree angle on the inserts on beforehand, so it took quite a long time to grind them down. Fitting seats is indeed a rubbish job. No wonder why they charge £100 for it.

K-line:

It needs a ball reamer ( do you call them that) for getting the size right after installation.

Carl, have you used these with 9/32 guides? I haven't found these. The B-series ones are 5/16 as far as I can remember. Luckily, Yank-iron also use this nail size for valve stems.
