hiya i just used some zinc primer and then black hamerite on the turbo box, do you think it will be ok? I welded the inside aswell, and the corner piece under the engine mount i made is curved because i need more space for the silicone joint.

It looks awfull with the shiney hamerite, but at least it will be hidden! haha

The garage was lovely before i started working in it! it was so clean! The heat from the house comes in and its lovely and warm, but the lighting isnt very good.

I really want to paint it out inside, how much do you think it would cost and how many litres of paint, maybe just to do the floor?

No idea, never painted a garage.

Hammerite should be OK - thats what I did mine with, and its still black.

I used 45 litres of white emulsion to paint my 6m x 7m garage

edit to add a picture - not a great pic but hopefully you get the idea

I used the 15 litre trade packs available from wicks

Well done on your progress, looks very good.

As for painting the garage it makes a huge difference and really is a much nicer place to work in. White emultion in bulk for the walls and concrete floor paint would do wonders. I got some some floor paint from screwfix and seems pretty good 3 years on.

hah yeah its thicker too. it doesnt look as good now though, i had to cut a bit out on the right hand side when i fitted the T2 turbo because of the actuator position.

Good work dude and nice choice of engine crane :)

Agree with the white walls, make a hell of a difference, I think machine mart are doing an xmas deal on a set of 4 halogens too, might be worth a look..

Shropshire.

I sold my house a few weeks back, No1 on the list for my new place is a big garage! (think the Mrs might have other priorities, like a kitchen etc)
working out side sucks!

That crane set up looks useful. Good job.

If you paint the floor, use some PVA glue and water mix and paint that all over, it'll seal the floor in. Then get some garage floor paint and use that.

Be warned the floor paint is very expensive, but its worth it.

leyland make some pretty awsome floor paints, and there not too dear either..... been painting a industrial unit for the past week or two, and if its good enough for that sort of envirobnment, then it oughta be good enough for a grage floor......

And on the 7th day........... God created turbochargers!

I only just noticed your choice of crane, big respect for going for the old skool method, I tried it once, and then went straight to machine mart.

PS. Good to see that your conversion is coming along.

I lined mine with heat resistant foily mat stuff, just stops the paint bubbling, I think I'm gonna lag the turbo to, but not with the expensive stuff just exhaust wrap.

Although the heat through the bulkhead will keep your legs warm this winter lol*smiley*

hahathankyou!!

Its really really easy to lift up on the pulleys, and because theres only me to work on it its an easy way to get the engine in myself!

Its actually designed for boxing punch bags!

Painting the garage floor is going to be expensive yeah, i will try that pva methood to stop the ground soaking up too much. Even though its expensive, i think it should add value to the house if it looks all clean and tidy. right now it looks a right mess.
