Hi,
Not much wrong with your boost gauge readings if your running 6 or 7 psi boost. Vacuum may be a bit low at idle, timing could be out? Unless it's bouncing around at idle, nothing to cause a misfire.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

So your saying it now runs ok on light throttle loads but if you jump on it it misses?!?!?!?!

If you use the light throttle, but gently increasing, to accelerate does it stay working even when it comes on boost?

I have had a dodgy fuel pressure reg once that didn't allow snap throttle openings but your granny would never have know there was a problem.

The other thing that jumps to mind is if your using a dizzy that it's either not reacting to boost (should retard the timing as boost comes on if it's a Turbo one) or it isn't a Turbo dizzy. If your using something like a MegaJolt then it might be either a faulty MAP sensor or a NA map in there.

Just a thought.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Are you using the later electronic dizzy with the module on the side?? If so, i had a similare problem where mine misfired its arse off under load due to the bolts holding the module on not being tight enough!

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

with regards to that lil box on the dizzy, i have also been told along with loose bolts, if there is not double sided sticky tape between it and the dizzy you can get problems ? having not even started mine yet i cannot confirm ???

sounds like a fuleling issue to me, however i had similar problems with my T5 when there was a leak in my pipework to the carb (from turbo) and the car was hicking and misfiring like hell ! would start up lovely and tick over ok, but as soon as boost was required there was problems. though

Hi,
Try the Tee piece trick in Beross's link above. To diagnose your boost guage bouncing around you need to do a compression test, which I prefer to do first on a misfire. A compression test rules out anything internal.
As you mention you changed the head gasket, are your tappets set correctly / has it run properly since it was replaced?
Cheers,
Gavin :)
Ps Sorry to hear about your crap day. Keep at it, we've all been there...

Hi,
Did you check the tappet clearances when rebuilding?
This and the plug leads on the wrong way round are the only things I can think of that may be altered by changing the HG.
On the other hand it could be just an unfortunate coincedence.....
Cheersw,
Gavin :)

Well first of all glad you got the other problems sorted out. What was the story with the noisy tappets anyway? Hey I have also been out in the rain (and now intense wind) for the past 2 weeks and the car still isn't right! You'll get that but then you'll also have a lot of fun when it is working so hang in there. Take a break from it and then it's just a process of ilimination until you find the problem.

hmm right then

if the boost gauge isnt tmoving past -0.4 then youve probably got a leak somewhere on the inlet side of things

go around and check that all pipes are on, and that none are split

-boost gauge (at both ends)
-dizzy vac advance
-servo pipe work
-fuel return pipe present and correct
-check oil in dashpot (10w40)
-Plenum gasket
-Carb gasket and breather pipes
actuator pipe work
-Dump valve pipes-do you have a dump valve? is it stuck open??
-air intake pipe crushing?
-loose spark plugs
-damaged/deformed manfold gasket (look for petrol running the back of the block after its been running)
-possible leak out of the side of the head gasket-check that all bolts are torqued up

im confident its something simple and loose thats been missed when you put it together (we've all been there)

its a shame im not working down in london anymore it would of given me something todo in the evenings

stowmaket suffolk

once sorted out missfire if you want more boost you need to wind your acuator in a turn or 2.

but sould read about -.5 ish on tick over but they do bounce a little which does depend on what cam you are running.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

jimmy my moneys on the plenum gasket to the back of the carb is the WRONG ! way round

ther is a small hole in the gasket for the boost pressure to pressurise the float bowl (look carefully*wink* and use your head)

check this
the T peice trick solves this mistake once and for all

My engine worked fine without the t-piece mod. Then, hen i pulled the carb off to lift the head, and put it back on exactly as it came off, it wouldn't fuel under booost.

So, I stripped the carb a few times, nothing amiss, so came up with the t-piece mod.

Basically - don't try and figure out why, just do it and see if it helps. :)
