This problem has just started. If it's at idle (Around 800RPM) and I try to set off or even if I just hit the accelerator pedal the Air/Fuel gauge goes way lean and the engine tries to stall and backfires from the carb. I have replaced all pipes and fuel filter. When it's running and on boost the mixture is good. Any ideas???? It is also running megajolt.

Hi,
Could be an air leak in the carb / manifold area. You'll lose this under boost as you've got pressure and not vacuum, hence the mixture is correct.
Check all vacuum hoses, breather pipes etc. Then check inlet to carb and manifopld to head gaskets for leaks. You can do this with a can of easy start or similar, but DON'T get any on the exhaust! Engine revs will increase when you spray over the leak.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

It's mostly made from ether. It's called 'starting fluid' here and I think Gunk makes it. You should be able to get it at the local Pep Boys.

Thank You all for your help. I'll try that and hope I find a leak.

Hi,
Anything that combusts should work, like carb cleaner, brake cleaner ect. Easy start is the best as it's very combustible!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
So much for the theory :(
The only other thing I can think of is the piston in the carb is rising too fast giving a weak mixture.
I'd suggest heavier oil or a stronger spring, but this doesn't explian why it's just started doing it.....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I'll pull the dashpot off and have a look at the spring. I use 20/50 engine oil in the dashpot. Seems what most are using.
