There are always lots of questions about compression ratio, combustion chamber volumes and piston dish volumes.

I've produced these simple tables to give an approximate total of the combustion chamber and piston volumes to achieve a specific compression ratio in a given engine size.

It assume a 4cc volume for the gasket, ring land etc.

So if you want a 9:1 ratio in a 1293, you need a total of 36.4cc. If you have 13cc pistons, you need 23.4cc in the head.

Hope this helps.

Edited to include 1098s.

Now as an attachment.

Carnforth, Lancs

Presumably the 'head' volume indicated needs to include any piston to deck volumes?

No, It allows for 4cc.

If you have more or less then you need to adjust the chamber volume accordingly.
