i noticed to when i bought my knucle joints i asked for genuine ones but they had a flat bit on the top, where it sits in the cup, & thought it was about 3/4 of a millimetre sorter than the ones i took off so thort i'd have to wind the hi-low up when fitted, i'm annoyed cause i've basicly repaired & replaced all bushes & linkages on the front frame this week stayed up till 2 in the morn with the super-ser gas heater on to get it done & t looks like a fricken fiat panda 4x4 haha *surprised*P the nuts on my hi-lows are quite wide, the hi-lows are not ripspeed genuine type they are a good quality ally copy, i drove 100 miles to settle stuff on the car & re-tourqued the nuts when i got back & it had'nt setteled, i really hope it does!!!! i'll post pics of the hi-lows

I think there is about 3 different genuine ones, I know on the Sportspacks had a bigger collar to raise the car sightly to help with the wheel clearance.

Doesn't help you much, just a random bit of background info.

Hi,
I did the same a while back. They will settle down after a while to the point where you'll need to adjust them up off the bump stops!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Hi,
I believe there are 2 types of knuckle joints. One has a "washer" cast on to the bottom. Obliously this type will make your ride height higher *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Been hear myself. As other have said it will settle a fair bit.

I raszzed mine around the Cotswold hills for a weekend and was really worried that my workmates would take the mick when I got to work on Monday morning.

Anyway when I got up the following morning it looked like it had been on pimp my ride. My then girlfriend had used the car at night and I don't know what she did to it but I had to wind them up before I could drive the car home from London that evening ...

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

a pic of my hi-lo's & knuckle joints, they seem decent quality,

on there low-est setting as in the pic they were 3/4 of a millimeter shorter than the standard cones & knuckles i took off!!!

i've took it for a run over speed bumps etc etc made some violent turns to bed the new parts in, if it doe'snt settle lower i'll have to machine material from the thin end of the hi-lo & the threaded bar that goes into it wont i, correct me if wrong or there is a better method

Your new shining hi-los are the problem.

The proper "Ripspeed" hi-los are the ones to use. They are much shorter.

Those pistured are probably longer than the standard trumpet when fully wound down. Cheap copies.

The locking nuts look rather chunky, if you're on a tight budget you may be able to get some smaller nuts from a hardware store.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

is there suppossed to be 2 nuts? I would of thought the cones were tapped and then you lock off with just one nut?

My hi-lo's aren't locked off. i have drilled tower bolts and then adjust them from above on the front.

Iain i agree, to achieve lower ride heights i took off my lock nuts all together and they never adjusted on their own.

You only need one lock nut!!

I think one of those is the 'bolt head' and the other is the lock nut.

Some slim series nuts or turn down the current ones to about half their thickness.
'Bolt heads' could have the same machining done and you'd now be able to get the car on the deck.

I agree with Iain in that the originals with the loooooooooooooong allen key to adjust are by far the best for if you are adjusting them regularly, such as a competition car. For the road buying copies is fine so long as they are good copies. I normally use the ones Min-Its supply and have never had any trouble.

May I ask where you purchased those stilts from???

i've had these in my garage for just over 5 yrs & i did buy them from min-its haha *surprised*P the knuclkes i've just bought last week from minispares though, i'm not going to be adjusting the height much to be honest, i just want to get the car 1-1.5 inches lower than standard, i'd drop them another 1/2 inch again if i was going up the drag strip or going on a trackday, the locking nuts do look quite a beefy affair i thought, partly why i chose the min-its copys above others really,

rogerm!!! u are right one is the bolthead the other is the locknut, i could take the locknut off, i dout it would move due to the pressure on the hi-lo from the rubber donut, if ppl here are running there hi-lo's without the locknut with not probs i may go with that idea, seems an easy fix at the moment

i agree the ripspeed type are really nice, i have some but the cones are stuck to the donuts arrrrhhhh! they have grease nipples on too! they are'nt for my car tho really
