i'm running spax adjustibles at the moment but need to change them, i was thinking about KYB gas-a-just shocks,

the car is my daily driver but i plan to do trackdays/run what ya brung days of a weekend when i can (say 10 a year)

but i also may end up a lowering it more than an inch so therefore lowered shocks are the ones to have, i've asked advice in the minispares places nr to me (not MIN-ITS yet tho) & most have just pointed me in the direction of the most expensive kit, i dont want coilovers either, what ya reckon

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!

I asked a similar question a while back and decided on the KYB Gas-a-just.

They are now fitted and feel fine, not that I have used anything else to compare with other than standard.

I had Scruffy set up the suspension and it sticks to the road like glue, using standard alloys and 165s.

I have gaz at the moment but still have my old set of kyb gas-a-justs in the garage as one day im sure i will put these back on. They gave superb ride comfort for everyday driving (for a mini) and certainly gave good enough handling for the odd track day.

I found the ideal (comfort) combination for road use to be basic spax on the back (on softest setting) and KYB's on the front.

If i was going to do a trackday, I'd swap the fronts to the Gaz's, then back to the KYB's after. The Spax rears can be adjusted up a few clicks if needed, and un-clicked again of course.

Gaz were far from 'comfy' for road use IME.
KYB rears didn't keep the wheels in check like spax did on the softest setting.

I run GAZ adjustables on one of my minis, find them superb for both general driving (soft setting) and at the twist of a nob easily stiffened for those more spirited driving moments!
I was that impressed with them have just purchased a set of GAZ coil overs for my Minus.

They must have changed - as I first fitted Gaz shocks, and took them off again after a few days. The ride on the softest setting was akin to a leaf-sprung Land Rover; guess it depends where your tolerance level is though :)

i had some GAZ coilovers on a 1.8 metro gti i had & they were superb, really good fine tuning on them, i'm feeling swayed towards the KYB gas-a-justs because of price & performance, i have heard a few ppl mention they are a good damper, but they dont come in lowered form i dont think, i'll have to check, can you take your old spax to the factory for rebuild at all as spax are in bicster/oxen i think

I wouldn't bother mate .... I worked at Spax for a while ...... left because I didn't have a horse so didn't fit in!!

Seriously though, they aren't interested in rebuilding only selling you new ones and will quote you as such ... more for a quick look see than a new one.

Nothing wrong with Spax stuff quality wise, just that for my taste they are a bit stiff for the road on a Mini .... unless you go for the road / normal height coil oevers in which case they are brilliant!!!!

I have a set of coil overs RSX519's (lowered) I am keeping for my car as those on the track are awesome too, just you have to trailer your car everywhere or else have a dentist follwo you around!!!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Northern Ireland (ex AUS)

Calver ST has a table with damper lengths which is handy, looks like the gas adjust are available in standard only and are 8" front and 10.25" rear closed length.

I had Kyb's but found them to be a bit "bouncy" for the smooth roads in Cornwall. Changed the fronts to adjustable AVO's and they're much better

My car is as low aspractical for road use (5mm off bumpstops at front and equivelent at back)

I use the KYB and have had no problems so far (probably done 15-20k miles)

thats good to know.... as those were the ones i was leaning towards, i was just worried about how long the shocks would last on a lowerd car...
