I finally got the engine running yesterday and took it for a blast up the A38 to hear my lovely sc drops.
Got back to the garage and switched it of.

I was going to take it back out after sorting out the carb and there was no spark!
The engine turns over and there is power going to the coil, after messing with the points a bit they were sparking but then nothing? They do look like they have melted a bit too :(

I know it can only be the coil or condensor or a new set of points, any suggestions before I go and buy a whole new set, they have only had about a 1000 miles use.

Hi,
I've heard of people getting through 3 condensors before they get a good one. However for a large sum of money (£10) you could get an ignition amplifier from Maplin. Dead easy to fit and takes the electrical load off your points.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

sounds like an electrical short on the dizzy wire and the points overheating.

oooooooohhhhhhhh points what are they,

iether that mate get your self a eclecy one of a meety with a correct coil and you wont look back.

what dizzy is it, is it a lucas or ducieller

the ones with the self cleaning points you have to bend the tab or it will short out causing you to lose spark.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas

I hate points, never got on with them really, they seem too tempermental!

I don't see the point (pun not intended) in using them when theres Electronic ignition, much more reliable!

Almost certainly the condensor stopping going .. what caused the failure, that is the important question? Actually one other thing ..... just check your points gap and static timing (light bulb/meter test not dynamic strobe test) .... screws and bolts are known to slacken!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...
