Hello

I'm going to collect bits for a super strong turbo engine...

I am trying to achive 150bhp (but more is nice), I want to try an increase the period between rebuilds...

Ok heres the spec I'm looking at;

Mspd Turbo head
1310cc block - if I can find pistons
+040 turbo pistons (Omega?)
Polish and balanced Con rods
Fully worked crank (Balanced, X-Drilled, wedged, Ni-Temp'd)
Avonbar Ph2 Turbo Cam
1.3 roller rockers
Lighten Flywheel
Lighten Backplate
Orange Cluch
4 speed, standard geared, rebuilt 'box
3.2 Final Drive
4 pin Minispares Diff
SC Drops (Not sure on make)

Rebuilt T3 Metro Turbo (might send it off to get worked on properly so it'll spin nicer)
Slightly tweaked inlet (dremaled out a bit)
RS Turbo Intercooler
Dump Valve (piston type)
2 Core rad - with a secondary smaller rad in the front
8 row Oil Cooler on a thermostat.

Hows does all that sound? Does each componat complament each other?

If anyone can give me any more infomation on what I could tweak, that'll be helpful.

My budget is around £4000, and I'll be collecting the engine bit by bit, already got the box :)

Mart

First of all, Morespeed do a "booster" engine that is fully built from hat to pan for £2100. It has ARPs and centre strap etc BUT doesn't have straight cut drops and something else I can't remember now. I think thats pretty good value for a "pro" built engine and box. You can add in more to that at a cost too. I don't know about you but I am tempted, it isn't much dearer than me doing it myself and they claim 170 banannas when sorted. Avonbar do something similar.

Oh and you get fully built short blocks for £700 from morespeed if you want to do the rest yourself.

First mini turbo to get in the 12's & site perv

Herefordshire

you might want a grey clutch if your planning on occasionally running more that 150 bananas

I wouldnt run a piston dumpvalve, well a bailey one anyway, just get something like a diaphram one

get a minispares super 2core rad, then you wont need the seperate one

and your on the right lines, chat with an engine builder

Thanks for the Info so far fellas, but I'm one of those owners that doesn't like 1380's due the "meat" between the bores, 1310 would be the largest I go for.

Modern Turbos... What are the examples?

I've read that the T2 from a R5 Turbo is meant to pretty sweet! But the cost of the Manifold isn't... but as you said Mini1071, I could save from not having the crank "fully done" and that would pay for the Manifold...

Also, do you think its wise to get the engine as a built item or get a kit and build it myself - I'm cool with which ever way tbh...

Hi,
Although the T2 manifold will cost you a little more, you won't need to buy a downpipe or a turbo bulkhead box, or for that matter have to fit the box *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I want to fit the box!
Just so it allows a little more air to get around the turbo to keep it a little cooler...

I'm liking the idea of a T2, is there a decent thread anyone can point me to where I am have a good read at?

Anything that made by Garrett and doesnt have a G in its name...is old hat IMO.

All the old T series are getting on in years.

go for a more modern GT unit.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will

Wouldnt worry about the 'meat' between the bores on a 1380

http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=125315

And contrary to popular opinion, the AF460 'copper' gasket is the one to use on 1380 or above. The fire ring is just that little bit bigger.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

Thats an interesting thread...!

But I'm stuborn! lol...
Just been browsing on Morspeed's site... the booster enigne seems a good price for what it is!

Is it worth going for SC drops, and a Helical CR box?

dog, i think most people will recommend sc gearset aswell as drops for 150+bhp, especially if you dont want to change bearing all the time. if your worried about noise, most of it is made by the drops

Nah not fussed about noise, tis why I wantr SC drops, for the noise lol

So a full SC gearset is needed...
Think I might give Morspeed a ring... or an Email anyways...
