I went out a few weekends ago to try and get some decent pics but alas I ended up coming back home and taking them in the driveway! Anyway this is Mitch the Mini, (or Mitch the Hitch as he's known on a bad day) all 1275cc's of him. He is a '79 and at the moment there's nothing much exciting about him other than the usual S discs, fancy tiebars/lower arms, Konis and HiLos (the spacers are off the drums at the moment though). I do have a T2 under my bed with nearly everything needed for the turbo conversion. All I need now is money for a nice pro engine build and mirage setup or I might go DIY (I have 3 cars on the go now, 2 projects and 1 daily driver). After messing about on photoshop all I ended up doing is introducing some rare shades of purple into the pics! OK lets see if we can get this to work...

YES! At 8:00am on a saturday morn he takes about 5 minutes reversing in.

The whole plan with the car is to slip the turbo lump in there with no bumps or holes anywhere. Keep the wheels and all as is. I am considering a carbon or GRP front though, the joins in the wings are a little crusty. Plus imagine just lifting off the whole front and having access to everything you want! Sheer luxury!

Wow nice car. My 1st mini was the same colour as that, 1976 998 auto, had the same seats and everything but the dreaded tin worm got it.

Almost all my minis have had GRP fronts gives more room to put stuff to, (minispares for brace bars £30 so it will pass the MOT). I'm using a trailer plug this time round for the front loom.

The old skool wheels look cool *smiley*

BTW - I took my buddy VTEC Pete out for a spin this weekend, and even though I am running her in, he gave it a name, the "Brocket"...cause I'm a brocket maaannn, nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah nah....

Hmmm, you've got me really tempted now. I nearly put a grp front on about 3 years ago but I just didn't like loosing the originality so kept with the steel. I know that sounds daft, Mk 4 and all (it's a Leyland too!) but I don't want to stray too far from stock (looking). I really want a Mk1 front end and tail lights to match the wheels and 3 point roll bar but I won't let myself.

The big question is: should I put on some grp 2 arches? I want to keep the delux strip but I would have to paint them brown, black arches on a brown Mini doesn't sound to good. Or maybe Wood & Picket arches? Will the wheels come out far enough to fill those arches?

Mr Trucky next door is alright, he's a good spud. It doesn't wake me up believe it or not.

Will get some decent pics on the weekend, I'll scan in my film ones.

That is mint. Puts the body work on my mini to shame!

I'd keep it without, looks well retro!

Did you do it all yourself?

that would be a real nice street sleeper with a turbo, only the tyres & exhaust would be a givaway!

one thing spoils that car for me, the angel eyes, i'd stick them straight on ebay!

Some Mk3 rear lights would make it look even more retro. *wink*

Your right the angel eyes are starting to annoy me now, it looks like C3PO with them. Thing is I had nice big 100/80w bulbs in the old halogens but I'm stuck with 55/60s now.

OK no arches, it's just annoying with the MOT, the wheels are technically illegal but they've passed about 4 times without arches.

Yes car will look as is with the turbo, it's not really sleeper, I'd put on the 10x3.5 skinnys for that! With the wheels and lowered look it gets the native chavs a little excited as it is. But think of it as ye olde '60s style until you pop the bonnet and see an intercooler and blue hoses. I really wanted a factory look for the engine, green engine and black ic pipes and hoses and no stainless or chrome. Too much work though.

I really like the de-arched look, I ran mine without arches when I did the a panels and really liked it, only problem is it's sat on 12 by 5.5 ultralites so they stuck out to much

Honestly if you look real close it isn't so mint. I got it done "professionally", ie all welding and paint done by a coach builder (my compressors stuffed) about 2 years ago. His work is pretty good (the orginal quote did inflate a lot by the end but hey) but the painters (different people) oversprayed my konis and I counted about 6 runs and some nice orange peel on the doors. Wing joins are crusty if you look close and there is some nice blisters but it is a daily driver and it's in the rain all the time. It's one of only 2 russet brown Minis in Northern Ireland! Just wish I had the dosh for the engine right now!
