i made a massive mistake and managed to splash superglue onto my paint. I wiped it off but theres still a little bit of remains on there. Will superglue remover damage my paintwork?

Try the remover on a bit of paint you dont see like under a seal or something first.

I thought hot soapy water brought it off ?

Failing that just buff it off ?

Just light of boiling water should soften it enough to be removed with a washing up sponge with hand cleaner on ...

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

yep soapy water,

I was supergluing something at work, (homeoffice job!)

sat there for about 5 mins holding the thing together steadying my hand with my fingertips on the desk....

didn't realise i had my fingers in a puddle of glue i'd spilt til I let go.... or rather didn't....

I was glued to the desk for a good half hour, the soapy water, got it off though.

Nic's bang on ..... use hand cleaner as it's got very mild abrashives in it (nothing that will hurt paint though) and they are usually made out of natural ingrediants so are unlikely to damage the paint surface.

The polish will save you but it will look shite once you have the glue off however a really good buff and polish with see it back to it's best.

Hope it all works out mate, love the paint ... wish I had the oven and balls to shoot flip ... solids and metalics only for me .. :(

I can't imagine that soapy water will remove super glue from a cars paint. Super glue is some nasty stuff!

I would first try the Meguiars Clay Bar. They sell that product over there, don't they?

If the clay bar doesn't work, and you have a steady hand, I would suggest you shave it off with a razor blade. In my auto detailing business, that's how I remove glue and other contaminants that won't come off with cleaners. Though if you slip, it could be disasterous!

I seem to have confused people. By hand cleaner I mean something with the small abraives in for getting ground in dirt and oil off. It's the light abrashives that will get the glue off. Use as hot wayer as you can stand!!

Soap won't touch it ...

If that doesn't work then get your wallet out and get the car to somebody that can help as the stuff Lance is on about is damn expensive if your just using it once!

This might work. But beware that the abrasives in these hand cleaners (at least the stuff we have around here) are much stronger than even the strongest of car polishes. You will need to follow this up with some abrasive car polish to bring back the original shine.

Good point Lance. For the most part they a fine sugar-like crystal and break up fairly easily.........

I would try a bit on a none visable section of paint first though ....

Whenever I need car finish care assistance, I go to the guys at detailcity.org. So I went over and asked them how to remove super glue.

Their suggestions were to;

a. wet sand the surface until the glue is gone. Then follow it up with a series of polishes to bring back the original finish.

b. If you don't have a clear coat, the superglue manufacturer suggests you try acetone applied with a fine tipped applicator like a q-tip directly onto the glue itself. But beware! Acetone will completely ruin your paint if it gets onto the surface for more than a second or two.
