OK so I read the other threads and it seems that oil cooler with stat is the way to go given where I live but theres some argument on the stat. I have found a decent price on a stat statside and they have 2 choices, standard (80 degree?) or 95degree.
I have two trains of thought, first go 95degree, the 13 row will cool it quickly once it hits the temp and modern oil can take it anyway. Second 80 degrees at the hoses is not 80 degrees at the sump, some cooling must happen before it hits the stat.

What should I get considering...

I'm in USA and it gets bloody hot here, (not uncommon to go >90degf for weeks on end)

I am running a 13row cooler

I wont run this much in the winter as they throw salt everywhere.

I intend to thrash it whenever I can (but keep to 2500 mile annual insurance limit at only $70 a year hell yea)

Hi,
I believe people on here have changed the 80 for the 95 as the oil just never got hot enough. You need around 75 degrees C just to burn off polutants from the oil.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

also can you buy it all in a kit? if so were from?

get a 95degree c one and a oil temp gauge, the stats only cost about £2 from thinkauto, so its not the end of the world forking out for another should the oil still over heat.

weres the best place to run a oil temp gauge to? i dont like the idea of fitting it into the sump as you loose the magnet, and the other way iv heard of is in the speedo housing but means not being able to run a speedo!!
surly you can tell if the oil is to hot by the oil pressure gauge?

cheers

Putting it in the speedo housing doesnt stop you using a speedo.

Thats where mine is and theres plenty of space at the front of the housing for the sender not to interfere.

Using the pressure gauge only works to an extent, after mistaking my bottom end chewing itself up for overheating and driving a few more miles on it, i prefer to have both gauges.

Hi,
I've got the cooler one, if you need a swap, as I'll need the hotter one for sure!

Gavin :)

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

terry the optimum oil temp for power is a ...100c

mine doesent get no where near that on hot days in the uk with ambient air of 32 deg when we have our heat wave so to speak

i run a 13 row cooler no stat and the oil chills to 40c in the sump blanked 7 rows off with duck tape and the the temp rose to 60c at 32c ambient.

the stats the way forward

I ran an automatic Metro oil cooler on my car. ( It fitted better than the metty turbo one )

I never used a stat, and never felt any need to. No idea what the temps were though.

9.85 @ 145mph
202mph standing mile
speed didn't kill me, but taxation probably will
