Hi Guys,

I am all confused with my megajolt setup.

does the missing tooth need to be at tdc when the VR sensor is at 90 degrees BTDC?
so TDC is the woodruff key in the cranck at 12 o'clock right, so i can line the missing tooth up to be at 12 o'clock and the VR sensor needs to be at 9 o'clock?

or is it the woodruff key at 12 o'clock being tdc and the missing tooth and VR sensor at 9 o'clock

thanks Grant

OK

You have to remember that I'm posting this because its something I have to do later (therefore think about) and I'm bored! not that I actually know for sure!!

My GUESS is..

Missing tooth at the key, and sensor at 9 oclock, that way the missing tooth hits the trigger 90 deg before tdc. In fact the tooth and key can go anywhere as long as they line up when the engine is 90 deg before tdc--- its just that 9 oclock usually works out easiest.

Found the other post.. http://www.turbominis.co.uk/forums/index.php?p=vt&tid=135459

Yep, keyway is at TDC, line missing tooth up with the keyway to make life easy.

Sensor needs to be mounted 90deg BTDC so as the missing tooth passes the unit has time to think "here comes another rev" before actually having to do anything.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I guess you're using a home-brew trigger wheel such as one of trigger-wheels or a sierra job, rather than one of Tom Fentons?
The easiest way to set it up is on the car (so you know exactly where the sensor sits) is to set the engine to TDC and fit the sensor wherever it goes. Now align the missing tooth of the trigger with the sensor and turn it exactly 90 degrees (nine teeth) clockwise and fix it there. That way the missing tooth passes the sensor 90 ahead of TDC.
If you're doing it off the engine, I'd recommend dry-fitting the pulley and sensor so you can mark where the sensor sits in relation to the woodruff when fitted.

Shropshire.

Set the engine to TDC, the missing tooth at 12 and the sensor at 9.

this is far the easiest way and a simple bracket can be made. but in thereo you could moubt the sensor anywhere you want so long as its 90 degrees before the the missing tooth at tdc. i.e missing tooth at 12 sensor at 9 or missing tooth at 3 sensor at 12 etc. the important thing is set it with engine at tdc.

heres a pic of mine please assume the engines at tdc and the missing tooth is at 12 oclock.(typicaly the pic i took the engine wernt at tdc, lol) my bracket my look a little rough but its adjustable. i elongated the holes in it then the bracket is sandwiched between the rad mount.

I like that Bracket Carl!!

It looks really easy to make and as you say easily adjustable for distance. How do you adjust the vertical position? or is is near enough that you can adjust the map accordingly?

Terry

i worked the bracket so its in the exact persistion and just need adjustment left to right for the air gap. its spot on so i dont need to allow for differences in the map.

Ok

As my engine is still in about 100 pieces I had not got round to eying that up yet, (I only realised the other night that the big alloy bracket I hadmounted on the speedo drive cover were only for Metro's) but Its given me a good idea about what I want to do, Cheers!

Hi all,

well i finally got it all sorted and mounted up and so far so good, i just have to modify the throttle cable bracket now and then should be able to start it, i cranked it over and have great spark so i am super happy with that.
see pic of VR sensor and wheel.
check other thread of cooler install, will update again once i have the carb back on.

Here is my sensor bracket

As Im running VEMS full injection system with direct fire coils (no EDIS) The trigger tooth can be any tooth not just the missing one. Angular position of the sensor is not that important either.

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

If it looks familiar it's because I based it on Toms, although the quality is nowhere near as good.

I'll be getting my MJ running properly on the weekend (had it running in limp home mode the other day) as my dizzy has died.
