Just wondering what people think of the mock KAD quickshifts on ebay? A dead ringer only a third of the price. What do you reckon?

The one I bought did not work properly. After a while I could not get top gear. Problem is the circlip at the end is too big and it fouls the housing.

Aha! Right OK, avoid like the plague then. How can they produce an EXACT copy of the real thing (without the quality of course)? I knew there was a reason for the cheap price. £90 it is then for a proper KAD. Next month of course. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

Oh oh another thing, what way does the new lift collar thing work on the proper KAD? I mean, are you stuck with their knob or can you still swap them over? On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

No experiance of this particular item, but i'd never buy the copy. I find the same thing with the copied panels and other aftermarket stuff, if you have the time to play with it to make it work - its fine, but if you dont have the time your better off buying the original for, often, conciderably more. I've seen the future and tbh its Pie

I cut the top cup section of an old housing, and fixed it to the top of my normal gearstick base, then lengthened my gearstick to make a DIY quickshift 9.85 @ 145mph

You can swap to a different knob, but you need to get one with the same thread! Are you mounting your gear arrangement internally?? If you are you wont be able to shorten the KAD. (without it being a pain in the ass anyway)

I got a fake KAD quickshift for a Crissy pezzy and tried to fit it today.. Bottom line is that the thing is OK in theory but crap on execution, but I think I got it sorted.

I ended up splashing out on a genuine KAD. Best £100 I have spent on the car. It took a few hundred miles to loosen up but even on a worn gearbox it feels great with a much reduced throw (although slightly increased effort). I just need to change over the rubber mounts on the slector housing as they are pretty loose. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

Yes it has been done several times (MadMatt has done it), I think there's a nice 5 speed FWD box that can be used in the conversion too. On 7th Nov, 2008 Nic said:

I got a fake KAD quickshift for a Crissy pezzy and tried to fit it today.. Bottom line is that the thing is OK in theory but crap on execution, but I think I got it sorted. First problem was that the nylon ball that is held on by the 2 circlips was too big. I mounted it on a dremel and reduced it a bit with some sandpaper. Once that slipped in and was OK I found that the lift pin that allows you to get into reverse was not lifting enough to get reverse. I found you can unscrew the lifting ring and it exposes a roll pin, knock the roll pin out and the lift pin and its wire drop out. The wire has a loop at the top which the roll pin goes through. I shortened the wire by redoing the wire loop just enough to make sure the lift pin goes all the way up when you lift the ring. Now it selects all gears and reverse works fine. Of course my cars not running yet so not 100% sure but it feels fine when I connect it to the gearbox, all gears select OK.. Good point on the circlips Paul, I'll look into some different types that dont stick out so much.. Exactly right!! I did exactly this last year and its been fine. Just a little re engineering required thats all
As for the circlips, just snap off the 'eyes' and use them like a 'c' clip
