Anyone know a decent place to get hold of a Rivnut tool?

I want to use one to fit some M5 rivnuts to enable me to fit my new araches.

I looked around for ages for one. In the end I spent £60 on a really smart one from my local engineering suppliers.

Are you rivnutting to brackets or to the car?

If you sent me the brackets and rivnuts I'll stick them in if you want.

I'd lend you the tool, but I'd rather not post it. Fell free to pop up and get it from Macclesfield.

I was thinking about using these to secure my arches & dash instead of rivnuts:

As I reckon they would be kinder on the fibre glass flip front due to them having a little bit of give. Does anyone have any experience with them?

Areotek were just up the road from where I used to live and one of my friends used to work there so I have used a fair bit of their stuff.

Their alloy fasteners are quite good but you will need to put a little Loctite 222 or similar on the starting end of the female threads (so it's not visable ... you know what a detail monkey I am ....) or else they will keep coming loose.

I'd not use them for the front end myself though, rather have it all invisible on first inspection ....

As for a little give it is next to nothing, really the intention is to keep the panels apart just enough so that there is not fretting which might mark up the anodising or painted surfaces.

If you want a bit of give then use some self adeshive foam (household draught excluder works well .... see Screwfix)between the layers of panels.

Rob,

if you want to put a couple of rivnuts in then you can use my setting tool.

For my money it's still a rivnut and a bit of draught excluder...

These are ok for securing panels, but too bulky for arches IMO>

I've got my Grp2s and grille held on with rivnuts and BZP M4s. Much nicer than rivets or self-enlargers, especially when it comes to having bits on and off again (ie; perfect for the grille).
I wouldn't attempt to fit anything structural with then, but definately anywhere there's one of those horrid woodscrews-in-disguise, a rivet and especially an alli rivet into stainless (a big no-no for me), use the rivnuts.
two available here, and worth doing a "rivnut" and "clinchnut" search on't bay - http://www.nfauto.co.uk/nutsert.htm
