hi

did a search but couldnt find anything so...

im just wondering how much these bits weigh in standerd form and then in the other option people yous to lighten there mini.

standerd doors
glass widows (all apart from the windscreen!)
standerd boot lid
standerd front end (bits you remove for a flip front)
heater unit
sliding perspex or similar windows (all apart from windscreen)
fiberglass doors or standerd doors lightend
fiberglass front end and removable fiberglass bonnet
fiberglass boot
6 point roll cage.

i know all of these are differnt depending were you get it from etc, but at least i could get an idea of how much my mini could weigh if i was to go mad on the issue!
at the moment it weighs in at 664kg with a almost full tank, and nothing to lighten it!

cheers
josh

loosing weight off you car is a waste of time ,it hardly makes any difference to performance, all it does is bugger up the inertia you had stored in the heavy car, you'll have to relearn all your braking distances all over again, you need aheavy car that presses the tyres onto the tarmac. also a heavy car carries its momentum further when you come off the gas therefore increasing fuel consumpsion, some experts suggest an increase of up to 200% can be seen by increasing you cars weight by as little as 20% of its start weight.
Take it from me , your pissing in thre wind with this lightweight malarky , GO HEAVY, its the only way forward, lightweight is so last year,
i have now resorted to carrying a spare engine in the back o fmy car to further increase its overall mass, i'm particularly proud of this idea as it seems only a couple of other clever like minded individuals have had the same revolutionary forsight as i have, cast iron doors next for me, then possibly tripple glasing. i dont know where it will all end,

right ,i'm off for my tea now, two dozen pies , jujst call me fat boy from now on,

carl

fibreglass doors as supllied by mini spare about 3- 4kgs.
standards doors with the glass still in and door handles still on. i,e as youd just take them off the car 19kgs
clubman standard bonnet 9kgs
all weighed on my bathroon scales. and are approx

no longer a series, but still 1.3 turbo.

Hi,
Glad I've got an estate. Lots more room to put heavy things, and they're faster 'cause they weigh more to start with!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Josh, I've got one coming in the post, if you wait a week or two I'll weigh it when it arrives, I'll also weight the old panels steel when I cut them off.

Carl, I'm appalled, filling a roll cage with lead is something I would expect someone on TMF to do, do it properly, take the whole lot out and fabricate yourself a nice depleted uranium cage.
