What's a Good Lubricant to use when Assembling Piston Rings?

I guess they need a bit of oil, for the first start up. I was thinking WD40.

Cheers

Would use the oil you intend to run in the engine or a good quality engine builders oil ?

engine oil :)

Some people pack a little grease in there if its going to sit around a while and its unlikely to get primed properly before use.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

I've always used a 20w50 oil or some grease if it's going to sit ... never had any problems

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

So when some joey comes on here about how his 16v turbo vauxhall is great compared to ours, he can be given the 'bird'...

I always have a nice clean coffee tin at hand 1/2 full of 20/50 and "dunk" the piston before installing it.

I personally wipe bore with a paper towel dipped in oil and get a squirt from the oil can to the rings and piston skirt.

If you don't oil the bore you take the chance of scuffing a new set of rings in a dry bore..

Each to their own i guess.

Two things are infinite: the universe and human stupidity; and I'm not sure about the the universe.
