A friend is currently wireing his turbo engine into his mini and has changed the cluth to pre verto so he is also changing the wireing and starter solenoid to the type on the inner wing to match.

I just want to check i have the solenoid wireing correct.
From the original wireing there are the following wires and where i think they go

2 brown wires from the alternator (Go to battery terminal on new solenoid)
2 brown wires from main loom for lights (Go to battery terminal on new solenoid)
1 brown and red wire from main loom, ignition live (Goes to back terminal on solenoid for switching the solenoid)
1 black and yellow wire from main loom (Goes to front terminal on solenoid for power supply to coil)

Hope this makes sense and someone can confirm if im correct or completely wrong *oh well*.

cheers
kevin

After a bit of head scratching ive decided that the yellow/black wire that supplys the coil should not be connected to the starter solenoid (this would make it permenant live), instead i think it should be connected to the fusebox ignition switched live instead.

Any comments please chaps

Hi,
You should have feed to the coil from the solenoid. You connect it to the terminal (small blade type) that goes live when you crank the engine over. This applys more power to the coil when cranking to make starting easier!

Gavin :)

"A friend is currently wireing his turbo engine into his mini and has changed the cluth to pre verto so he is also changing the wireing and starter solenoid to the type on the inner wing to match" stupid question, but have to ask, is the starter the correct type for the ring gear on the flywheel? Made this mistake before myself.

Hi,
Pre Verto flywheels should have a round starter (cylinder shape with no extra bits!) which has only 1 terminal on the end. Unless the ring gear has been changed!
Cheers,
Gavin :)
