If you look in the moss cataglogue it gives you part numbers for every single nut and bolt on the car, type these into there website (or look at the bolt section in the back of the catalogue) and it'll tell you what the bolt is.

That said 99.9% of bolts on Minis are either UNF or UNC, as a general rule you use UNF if your screwing into steal and UNC for ally (head studs are the exception)

To be honest you best bet is just to buy a big mixed bag of UNF nuts & bolts, from someone like Namerick, as it'll save you a fortune in the long run and should mean that you've always go the bolt you need.

Namrick mix UNF pack is good value, I'd personally go for zinc plated rather than stainless for cheapness but each to their own.

"bolt's" means "bolt is"

"bolts" means "more than one bolt"

Dont use stainless bolts where the threads seat in aluminium.

There may be a point in time when you wish to remove the bolts and they will have siezed solid!!

Likewise, dont use stainless for any critical high tensile aplication.

It's all down to the application for that particular fastener.

Don't use stainless in suspension or brake applications .. not up to it!!!

Don't use stainless through ali parts as Sprocket says.

Don't use zinc plated where you want things to stay shiney.

No point in using stainless where it can not be seen.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Ive done a search on here,
With not much luck.
The thing is with the mos site/cataglougue, you can find what Nut's/bolt's they are, but dont say what size they are :( bit of a pain

The difference between a setscrew and a bolt is that a screw is threaded all the way along, whereas a bolt has a plain non-threaded shank for some of its length.

I have a 1/4" x 1.1/2" UNC STAINLESS HEX HEAD SET SCREW. Which is to long to fit the pully onto the Water pump. so i need 1/4" x 3/4" Stainless UNC HEX HEAD SET SCREW,
But can only find 1/4" x 3/4" Stainless UNC HEX HEAD and not setscrew.
I take it the HEXHEAD wont fit ?
Or am i on drug's..
Sorry to sound durr, but this bolt stuff's abit new to me..lol thank's alot

Nope.

you can have a M10x50 setscrew (this would be threaded along the whole 50mm) OR you cna have a M10x50 bolt that is threaded only 25mm, adjacent to a 25mm shoulder.

Just to confuse matters, the yanks call set-screws what we call grub screws. LOL

Yes, I think you are on drugs.

If you are trying to mount the pulley/fan onto the pump flange, then you need 1/4 UNF. At a guess - pully only, you need 1/4UNF x 3/8. If pully and fan, then you need 1/4UNF x 9/16
