Ive never seen any valves as carbonised as this and even with some gentle scraping it still won't budge?

The inlets clean up no problem, only light carbon on them, but the exhaust valves seem to be a mix of carbon and calcium build up?

Sorry about the pics, wanky camera phone wouldn't focus.

Any tips, or if you could recommend some good cleaning jollop. Would be much appreciated.

Oh yeah the head is aluminium and coated the same around the exhaust valves aswell, as there a but more difficult to reach a suitable cleaner would probably best rather than relying on elbow grease, any recommendations for this aswell Lol!

Cheers

Matt

I know what your saying but TBH mate, not sure if that will touch them, the carbon is really hard and will pobably rip the wet and Dry before cleaning.

Tried a soft wire brush in the chuck and held the valve against it, doesn't budge!

Get an old hack saw blade and cut it square. Use the flat edge to scrap of the worse of it then swap to the wet and dry.

Even if you get the carbon off you'll need to have the valve's seat ground. Have them bead blasted and ground professionally. Just hacking that carbon off, and installing them back in the head is just plain stupid.

Here's a picture of a set of valves I did up. These were in VERY good condition but still needed a regrind.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

i have come across this 1000s of times right.........................................

use P40 production paper firstley
then P80
then p180

if you want a mirror finish ?

320 wet and dry then use p600 you can shave in them

p180 is more than up to the job on the last pass

dont go up the shank on the valve more than the carbon build up

*wink*

Hi,
I cheated and dumped the wholw head in a vat of carbon dissolving liquid at my local engine builders *wink*
Mind you it still took a 24 hour soak to get it off!

Ah cheers for all the replies, not sure which method to try first now. Lol

Have easy access to oven cleaner...Gavin do you know what that carbon cleaner is called and where its available, if its ok to use on aluminuim that would do for the head. :)

Will probably finish with wet and dry, as I want them blinging, still got some sanding discs from my respray so thats all good. Do you think P500 is a bit overkill?
