I think its the end but maybe some of yoou could help me destressing to see. What it is i'm running about 5 psi on standard 1275 and starting to use it alot and the other day it started breathing really heavy and smoke coming out of the engine stood still. Then today i was driving it someone trying to race me and i put my foot down and its increased to double the power acording to boost gauge any idea whats going on and why shes breathing so heavy talking cothing oil heavy?

thanks for the bad news thought the bleed valve had open up or a crack in the pipe maybe. is it a case of droping the engine out or can you bring it out through the top or is it to tight cant get the exhaust clamp off

i managed to get my exhaust clamp off with the engine in situ at the weekend. Nuts were rusted on, was a fucking mission. It is possible though.

Is possible, exhaust clamp is peice of piss, when you realise how hard/awkward it is to get to the oil return from the turbo! Lol

Lean the engine as far forward as possible then stick a block of wood between the block and the bulkhead that little extra room makes all the difference. *wink*

What about the heavy breathing guys? Mine is the same. I'm just holding out until I can save enough pennies for a new lump.

Could it be piston rings?

In the 13's at last!.. Just

Mine's mega tight on space as it doesn't have a proper bulkhead box in, just one that the last guy patched together. :/

What sort of pistons are the best to stand a turbo? was going for up rated head bolts and nuts as well anything else i should be thinking about changing while i'm down there. what about shells? any help

Sounds like some serious detonation there mate! Seen serious piston damage in a huge gas generator engine, after 7 secs of detonation the piston looked like it had been cut in half with a blow torch!

Sorry to hear about your news. I had similiar concerns about oil cosumption, but discovered incorrect float height and excessive regulator pressure was flooding the engine hence the smoke. I know this does not help your situation but it could help others with similiar probs.

Good luck with the rebuild.

Hi,
Standard pistons are good for 10 psi, with everything set up right. With the engine in it's current state, i'd check the crank, regrind if needed, new shells, thrusts, cam bearings, timing chain ect. Basically a full rebuild, or buy one already done. I saw a post on here recently about ready built and the prices didn't look too bad. Depends on how confident you are at building engines......
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Morspeed do a nice turbo short engine for £800 exc. Comes with centre strap, ARPs etc. Not a bad price really, I prob will get a similar kit when the time comes, I don't have the garage anymore for a self build and it's just pretty tempting to let someone else do the work.
