battery going flat query

battery goes flat after a day or two when i leave the cut off switch on, i can hear the alternater buzzing when the cut off switch is on but no ignition on, any ideas or recomendations for some testing

in between the negative and body

Hi,
Trickle charge the battery off the car. Leave it standing for 2-3 days then put it on the car, see if it'll start.
Although the alternator buzzing doesn't sound good, if the cut off is off nothing can drain the battery
EDIT At this point it could be the alternators faulty and has knackered your battery :(

i have a cut off switch to stop this, just getting anoyed with turning it off all the time, think the buzzing is the exciter circuit as the alt work great nipon denso one

Hi,
It shouldn't be trying to excite if the ignition isn't on. Could be a duff diode draining the battery down to earth. I'm assuming you've got the small plug wired correctly?

The ND alts usually have a main postive bolt connection and a small plug which should be connected to an ignition feed and the warning light on the dash.

ye got that connected up good so not that, any other ideas, no real way of testing the diode pack is there diy style

The only way I can think of is to unbolt the alternator from the engine, leave the all the wires connected and then test for voltage and or current between the alt body and the engine block. The theory makes sense, but I've never tried it out.
