Hey guys, since I'm a bit of a noob to this I was wondering if these are any good for use on a turbo flip front mini? Asking 'cause it says here that I need solid ones! Like I said, new to all this!
Cheers

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

Hi,
I'd use the proper shaped tear drop ones on the front.
There doesn't seem a lot of material on the tower mounts either.
Personally I prefer to use the rubber mounts on the toe board.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I like to have all solid stuff, ala Mk1's

I do have a bit of a thing against any movement of the subframes though...

I'd have no issues with fitting that kit.*smiley*

I like nice quiet girly Minis

That kit includes some parts you won't need if fitting a flip front.

If it was me I'd ring Min-Its and tell them your fitting a flipfront and ask them for solid floor and tower mounts to suit for less cash!

Don't be tempted to use any forof complient mount with a flipfront....

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

I managed to make some (rear) front solid mounts using the original rubber mounts. See photo/link below

To seperate/remove the rubber I just used a knotted wire brush on my angle grinder, after being covered in rubber particles and the odd bit of smoke I was left with the mount in two pieces and no rubber.

I then just welded in between the two enough steel to the equivallent thickness of the rubber.

I've never heard of this being done before, can anyone see any problems with it?

Yes, Im getting there.....

looks good,

I've done similar with metro subdrame mounts,

I Put a big dab on at each end with a mig to keep the thing in alignment (by this time the thing is well smoking!!)

Then give it a good squirt with the mig on full, the rubber catches alight and coninues to burn until its all powder. Then its a simple case to weld the rest up.*happy*

Badger,

That's pretty much what I just brought for my clubby earlier today, although the top mounts I got are slightly bigger & as Roger says you don't need all the bits in that kit if you're going for a flip front, also I think I paid about half what the chap on ebay is selling them for.

Having cut the front of my car I agree with Dave's comments about fitting solid mounts, as the amount of play in the rubber mounts is quite drastic. If you fancy a drive in the county side you can pop round and have a look.

Graeme,

You might want to add a couple of gussets to the mounts, whilst they'll probably be more than up to the job as they are a gusset or two can't hurt.

Ignore that, the rubber on the bottom mounts has just split, looks like I'll be fitting the solid mounts & making some brace bars tomorrow.
