Hi guys, I fancy a change, my 1380 mini doesn't get used as a daily drive any more so i can go for a bigger carb set up in the hunt for alittle more power. my choice seems to be Webber/dellorto or twin SU i fancy twin HIF38 and build my own linkage they will fit on to a HS4/6 twin manifold if i put in a extra few studs. I don't want to cut in to the shell and i seem to remmber afew years back there is and manifold for mounting the webbers with out cutting but it does loss some power from it, any one remmber this and know where i can get one? Comes down to twin SU or webber. What you think?

Su's! but I have had no experience with webba carbs, I think there is a bit more to them then the su fuel needle for mixture, think ther is alsorts like emusion tubes, idle jets etc, but if you can get one thats been set up for a mini I gues its not a problem?

No point in changing the carb unless the head and cam can handle the extra air flow.

If you are running an HIF44 at the moment, then the gains will be minimal.

When I took the Webber off my 1380 to make it nicer as a daily driver I went back to my HIF44 (vizzard type mods admittedly). It is SO MUCH NICER TO DRIVE with the SU on. The webber was fluffy at the bottom end and it wasn't exactly good on fuel.

When we went to the rollers the peak power had gone from 118 bhp to 122 bhp (probably because the engine was free and transmission had bedded in a little to the aid of the run down test). What was interesting is how much fatter the torque curve was. No more torque but just a much wider spread and the 80% point was nearly 1200 rpm lower than it had of been on the Webber as it was set up!!!

I'd stick with a single SU .... just can not be beaten in the entire carb world IMHO

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

The head and came will take the flow, Morspeed stage 3 head and a kent 286 cam and 1.5.1 roller rockers. The car isn't beening used as a daily drive any more so will be mainly used for the odd trash and country drive. Im worried with the cam and rockers the single HIF44 won't give enough flow to the engine and hold the thing back.

the thing with webbers is there much harder to set up than the SU's as like Shane said there more bits on a webber to set up.
also my mate has a webber on his 1380 and it just makes more noise, and drinks fuel like theres no tomorow! it doesnt like to cruse at a steady speed rely, it just wants to be at full throttal all day! the bloke he bought the engine and carb set up off said it was set up etc.
hif 44's are good for crusing as well and keep fuel consumption fairly good when not thrashing it. and i carnt see theres much power to be gained with a webber, maybe if you had a 16v head on or somthing like that.

It is spelt "WEBER" not "WEBBER" or "WEBBA".

I wouldn't worry too much after all the flow well enough for 200BHP+ turbo lumps.

Hi,
I don't think there's a manifold that allows you to fit a weber AND an air filter without cutting the bulkhead.

Gavin :)

Hi,
According to the bible, not enough gain from the twins to make it worth the effort.

Use the Maniflow 3.5" inlet, you can get it a 45dcoein with no mods to the bulkhead with the ram pipes sticking through the original hole. I used this arrangement and showed 134 bananas on Swiftunes dyno.

I seriously doubt it!

I've got a vizzard modded HIF44 running through a stage 4 longman head with a 274 scatter cam and it fuels fantastic with very little, if any, maintenance required.
