has anyone made their own plenum chamber?
I was going to consider this after i saw the price people are paying for them!

Is there a fine art to deciding the size/shape etc or will a box made from ally do?

Cheers
Chris

Any shape will do really...

just dont forget to replicate the restrictor at the mouth of the carb.

Hi,
Its a brass ring with cut outs in. It restricts the flow of air into the carb slightly to help adjust the mixture when it's on boost.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Nic has made a few in the past and from what people have said they work quite well.

Get one from Nic. All this time NOT spent with women really has made him able to beceome a plenum master.

I wish!!!! The only thing i am is a master bator

I have a mate that is the master of stainless fabrication, he is also unfortunate in that he likes to nominate himself for things

We came up with the design one afternoon, he made it and it worked, so am now his welding pimp to fund his tigra powered mini (snigger)

Thanks to turbodaves findings on here the restricor ring is the thing to be careful of, and ive read somewhere that 1.3 times the size of the engine is the ideal plenum size

However to keep things simple we just replicated the size and restrictor so its a straight swap

If you dont fit the restrictor, you will ned to make massive alterations to the carb for it to supply enough fuel again.....

As I discovered many years ago.

I just made mine with a 2" entry hole for teh mouth of teh carb ( plus other air passages for dashpot etc )

The needle had to be altered quite a bit to restore fuelling.

so make sure you do fit the restrictor, its purpose is important.

ah right, i didn't realise what was involved in making one.
How much are your fabricated ones nic?
are they worth having over a standard one?

it depends what your after

theyre £90 posted in the uk, advantages as i see it are:
-For most installs they allow all the pipe work to be on the right side tidying up the under bonnet appearance
-And the main reason to build one was to reduce inlet temps as the pipe work no longer has to pass over the hot manifolds after it has been cooled

however you could put the components on the side to match the plenum, or run longer pipe work around the engine bay and get a modded std plenum from giallofly and save a few beans, both work successfully

there are a few solutions to the problem

Forgotten more than most ever know

Some pics of the plenum I did years ago: http://www.geocities.com/jharkola/1380turbo4.html

Unless you REALLY need to make your own I´d advise you to buy one or stick to std item, altering things will lead to lots of setting up.
