Sorry duplicate post!

My car has a weird oil pressure problem: if the car hasn't been running for a few days it won't give any oil pressure after starting it, no matter how often I start the car. If I keep it running for 10 seconds there is still no oil pressure.

The only way to get oil pressure again is to remove the oil pipe that runs from the engine to the filter housing, then put a little bit of oil in the hole where the pipe is connected to the engine, then reconnect the pipe again and start the engine. Suddenly there is oil pressure agian after starting the engine.

During normal runnin gthe oil pressure is constant and around 60-70 psi. If the car has been standing for just a few hours it gives oil pressure immediately after starting.

Does anyone have a clue what causes this problem?, any help would be really appreciated!

Hi,
Have you checked the relief valve isn't jammed?
Failing that could be a worn oil pump perhaps?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

a LIL fishing village on the coast - Newcastle Upon Tyne

oil pump is draining, by the sound of it i had problems with this a while ago it was solved with a new gasket for the pump, it was slightly nikd which was bleeding oil off. if the car had been stood for a while i used to pop the oil hose off on the block and prime the pump from there, and it was ok, i only had to re prime if the car was stood over night.

I'm running 10W40 semi synthetic oil. I'll try changing to 20W50 first before replacing the pump. I need to get the engine out to replace the pump isn't it?
