I have noticed this rust growing infront of the drivers side rear arch over the last couple of months, and was wondering what to do about it. Short of replacing the whole panel could a seamless repair be made by cutting the bottom section out and letting in solid metal?

the repair would only be 8 inches long as that is the only affected area of the panel inside and out.

Thanks

That should be a relatively easy repair for anybody used to replacing Mini panels.

I may be wrong but the cheapest way I can think to get that section is to buy one of the pattern panels which include the door step and trim as required.

The easiest way to get it all correctly aligned is to use the panel clips like these from Frost and if you can TIG it so much the better.

Good luck with it.

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Hi,
Check inside the rear pockets, you may find it's rotten by the heal board and this is causing the outer panel to rust!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

the heal board and pockets are fine. I blame oversills, but then again i am blaming them for most of the rust on the mini!

Hi,
They've never been known to do a car any favours. My car used to have some on, when they developed a hole, I took them off.
This revealed they were totally rotted away on the inside, along with whatever else on the car was in contact with them *surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I already know what to expect, because of a hole on the inside of the car below the door seal, about 6 inches long. the inner sills seem to have survived, they have only been on for 3 years as i have the recipt from the previous owner.
