Hi All,

have a quick question i hope someone can help me out with,

i have installed the unit and find com 6 to use and i can obtain the info from the unit and then i make a modification its ok but when i go to write it to the unit it times out. if i turn ign off then on i can save it but then when i go to obtain the data agion the original data is still there.

do you think it is a usb to serial cable problem? if so i think i have to write a new firmware to the MJ unit but i really do not know how to do this.

any hep would be great
thanks
Grant

Hi grant,

When you are changing the values you need to 1st save and then burn the values to the ECU.

Are you doing both steps?

Hi Alex,

yes i change value and then click the middle button to write it and then the last button to save and i also get time out down the bottom, if i cycle the ign before i click the chip button i still get the same result.

Hi,
I don't know anything about MJ, got Omex myself.
From your last post you're saying that your doing it in a different order from Alex's post above?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Where's the option to 'burn' it to the MJ then?

I had a play with mine the other week for the first time, I just clicked 'save', even if I powered the ignition down and up again the values would be how I left them?

Doesn't save only save the file on to your computer? I would have thought you need to upload the file using the "write ignition configuration". I haven't used the program in anger yet, so I am just guessing.

you have three buttons to use when changing the configuration,
the first is to obtain the current config in the MJLJ unit, the button in the middle is to write the software once you have made adjustments and the thrid is to load it to the MJLJ unit.
save button or save as yes only saves it to your pc if you ever want it again you have it ready to go.

I will try a serial to serial cable today and if no good download the latest V3.2.1 firmware and see how i go.

My money's on the USB adapter. I had a similar problem with the comms timing out, but I've recently gone to V3.2.1 with the latest firmware and it's fine now - no comms issues whatsoever. Just to confirm what you're doing is right, the three buttons, from left to right, are Read from controller (onto the computer screen), Write to controller (but not "saved"), and Commit to Flash (effectively "Save") - the one with the chip icon. Only after you've been able to successfully click this button will the new map remain on the controller after you cycle the power.

Have you set the buffers for COM6 to zero and set the baud rate?

Haha, to the computer illiterate (me) that sounds like: "have you initiated a tachion burst in the photon matrix and reversed the polarity of the phase inducers to stave off the warp core breach?".

Apologies, but if you are using Megajolt you need to be semi literate in puters.

Quote from the MS site:

"You may have to play with the USB adapter settings in Windows for the adapter to get it to work (see Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager). If there is a 'buffer' setting, set it as low as you can (often 1 or 0).

Make sure that your com port settings are correct for your serial port or your USB/serial cable. For example, change the baud rate (under 'start/Control Panel/System/Hardware/Device Manager/Ports (COM & LPT)') to 4800"
