Right i Currently have two wires on to the coil, two joined white with a black strip running to the possitive and then i have a plane white on the neg... i think i am missing a wire..as when i test the voltage across these two wire i get NOTHING. Please help and well i've left my haynes manual in a box in the loft and i don't have a pair of steps to get it....

Hi,
Right, for a start you've got the wires the wrong way round!
White ... 12V igntion feed goes to the coil positive.
White/black ... earth from point or electronic igntion module goes to the coil negative.
What have you got the OTHER end of the white/black connected to?
Test the white wire with a test light or meter, other end of light meter to the engine block, with the ignition on you should have 12V.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
EDIT ... Get your self a ladder! *wink*
