As it's a special birthday tomorrow, I treated myself to a new toy, AC/DC Tig Welder and Plasma Cutter combined.

Got it from this guy:

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/240V-AC-DC-TIG-Inver...1QQcmdZViewItem

Ordered it last monday and it turned up on friday - all the way from China.

Wired in some 32A sockets in the workshop and garage at the weekend. Need some gas, regulator, tungstens etc to fire it up.

Now I've just got to find the time to get fabricating.

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

Hi,
On the subject of welders I saw an amazing welder at a place that manufactures tanker trucks.
Where they make the steel tanks they use a very large TIG welder with a water cooled MIG torch, sounds ace and leaves no spatter at all!
Costs £4K though!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Let me know how you get on with it too.

I love my DC TIG set but really want a plasma cutter. For the little Ali I would do I never saw the point in getting an AC machine but if it all comes together for a price not too much more than I could sell my DC TIG for then why not!!!

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Postage is high, but the total cost is very good.

For example spot the difference:

http://www.welduk.com/Details.asp?ProductID=501

and

http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/Inverter-DC-AC-TIG-W...1QQcmdZViewItem

I make it about £800 - for the same product!

Remember this - it will serve you well in later life:

In your 20s you concentrate on your career and finding a partner

In your 30s you start a family and develope your career, take on a big mortgage etc

In your 40s you have to sort out the huge fecking mess you've got yourself into!

Now I'm 50 and I feel 70.

Thats a coincidence! I bought my mitech tig for myself for my birthday too!

I see you went for the foot pedal too

I'll be interested to hear how you get on with the 160 amp version. I'm starting to convince myself mine isn't as powerful as it was when i first got it al though the current metter still reads 200 amps ish when flat out... maybe all that glueing the tungsten to the work peice when i was learning hasn't helped*oh well*

Also does any one have an estimate for how many maps is needed for the welding of the conversion parts of a K1100 head? after a preheat on gasmark 5 of course!
