Hi all

This is going to seem like a silly post but nearly most people have turbo charged minis, but im thinking about what age I should be before I think about charging one incase I do the conversion and then smash it up a week later due to incompetence

Im 21 and have 3 years driving experience (well 4 in december)

when i drove a 10" wheeled Mini last it felt insane !

Hi,
36, too much experience to remember it all, licence for everything but buses. Only 1 turbo car on the fleet at the mo and it's not the Mini, but I'm working on that *wink*
The only thing to do is regulate your right foot until you've got used to it *wink*
EDIT .. Then again the insurance premium may change your mind*surprised*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

31, licence for everything except busses too (although I can drive a bus so long as it has fewer than 17 passengers ...)

Built my first turbo Mini at 20, second for me at 24 (a few for freinds in between).

Driving a turbo'd Mini is just an exercise in self control. Nail the throttle everywhere and sooner or later you'll end up off the road ... Feed the throttle and learn to balance the car with the throttle and brakes and it will make you feel like you could out drive a WRC champ.

1380 NA Mini (122bhp) with cage, custom interior etc. £142 with HIC
1275 turbo mini (144bhp estimate), full leather, rare kit show standard approx £165 with HIC

Same 1275 turbo Mini for my girlfriend (27, 4 years NCB) £290ish with HIC

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Currently paying £200 for the BOC with a N/A MG Metro Lump under the bonnet with HIC & they quoted me an extra £20 to insure it after I drop the turbo lump in.

Been quoted £130 for the clubman (998 turbo, cage etc) on a classic car policy through HCI.

Been driving since 17 and now 24, 6 yrs no claims, never really paid huge amounts for insurance since i was 19 I think (had a few quick cars)
I think the experience depends on what car you have the experience in? 4 years in a micra driving like a granny or a few years in somthin lairy and driving like a nutter, When I rebuilt one of my cars in 04 I went thru a phase of Bm's as run arounds, and had a R5gt, both my last Bm and my 5 was 175 bhp, going back to a mini seemed a bit tame, then commenced the turbo build.

I have to add I am very supprised at some of the ages you guys are, am I the only person who gets an idea in their head of how old people are, (no offence) but imagined a few of you gents to be a little older, and is Benross really in his 80's??

Well Benross certinally has the knowledge that come with age, but if he's 80 he must have a good deal with oil of ulay!

I'm 32 and have never had a turbo on the road, but pay £150 for a 60bhp 998 with 8k miles limit. I also have a wife and a child; the wife is self supporting, but the kiddo isn't quite old enough to clean chimneys yet!!

Fastest 998 mini in the world? 13.05 1/4 mile 106mph

23, 4 year NCB, but when you get insured through HIC on a CLassic car policy they don't use your NCB towards it.

I tried to use my NCB as it expires after 2 years if you don't insure a vehicle using them! It worked out 150 quid more expesive using NCB....insurance companies never sease to amaze me...LOl
