Hi all,
Few Questions if i may.
Im going to be running my turbo at around 8, maybe 10 psi.
I want to be taking my engine out to repaint the engine etc.
What kind of crane would i need. should i rent 1 out or buy one.
Ill have it for at least 3 weeks.
And what part of the engine to i join up to pull her out ?
It's all exciting stuff chaps *tongue*

Thanks.

Buying a crane is always a good idea- lumping around the engines is not a fun or easy thing to do without one!
Since I'm short of funds, I'm gonna be making my own stationary one out of scaffold and a block and tackle *wink*

There is no sense crying over every mistake- you just keep on trying til you run out of cake.

I like nice quiet girly Minis

Cheltenham, Gloucestershire

Never had a problem with mine which is one of these,

http://www.machinemart.co.uk/shop/product/...-workshop-crane

Had pintos and Rover V8's on it, sometimes with gearbox attached and it's going strong even though it's many years old and ten different colours.

As for attaching it to the engine I normall use the studs the rockerbox bolts down to ..... never once had a problem. If your flash you could always make up brackets to mount to the water pump bolts and the stabaliser bolts like my mate has ...... but I couldn't be bothered as what is there works fine.

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

A sturdy bit of rope tied up around solid points does it as well mate. Always feel it's a bit dodgy lifting a whole lump out with those, but that's just my personal preference!

There is a roll pin in the gear linkaged that you will need to bash out with a punch.. IIRC the best gear to put it in for easy access is reverse!

Ive also always found taking the rad out helps a bit, as it gives a tad more room to play with side to side.

Ive always used old seat belts as slings....yeehaa! *laughing*

Fill out your profile. If there's someone nearby they might be willing to lend a hand when it comes to the last few bits before lifting it :)

Both a Mini and a Metro manual are useful investments if you are planning to build a Mini Turbo.

Need's a good clean, repaint etc. this is Why were taking her out. :)
Were taking her up be around 8 or 10 Psi. my father ask me to ask if there Is Any essential things we should check Or even change if were running the Higher boost while the engines out.
Great site, and thanks once again for Your support.

if you tell every one your location some one may be local and pop round to give advice.

it sounds like your very new to these things and an experienced eye may spot some things you've missed

Hi,
Yes I'd put the 4pin or cross pin (same thing different name) diff in while it's out.
If 10 psi is as far as you go a satndard box should last a good while, if you don't hammer it everywhere.
If you're looking to up the boost past that the you'll need straight cut g/box and drop gears as well.
Ask for the gaskets and driveshaft seals when you order the diff. Change the diff bearings too.
Haynes should tell you how to set the diff up correctly.
Cheers,
Gavin :)

maybe worth a center oil pickup if you are going to throw it around, but that is a big if.
if you want to run 10 psi boost, you may need to change needle in carb, and i would do a search on boost topic as you may need to work out what you can run before detonation starts, higher the boost = lower CR and deffo intercooler (roughly translated equation)

I understand about the boost etc.:)
I got a 10psi needle already..
It already has a oil pickup.
Should i clean the sump out with Something too.
And It is worth getting a kad quick shift ?

And what do you mean by lower CR ?
Thankyou..
