Just brought my estate home from the garage where its had an MOT, 2 track rod ends, the tracking and a new manifold fitted.

but most corners i come to the front tyres screech.. and the car dont feel "right" at the front end

The tyres are 165/70 r10 yoko A008's and are about 12months old.

I'm tempted to goto a local place who can do the whole 4 wheel geometry setup but i'm not 100% sure what i'm asking for. Ive only got adustable bottom arms too.

any ideas?

take it to another garage to check the tracking again. if it is right they shouldnt charge you but check first.

Hi,
Sounds like your tracking is well out. They've probably fitted them in the same place as the ones that came off. If your car was tracked up with the worn ends, it'll be out with the new tighter ones.
Either that or they've just thrown them on any old how :(
Cheers,
Gavin :)

yep, theyve probably cocked the tracking up,

it could be that it is tracked right when straight ahead but the rack isn't centralised so if you turn the wheels 20 degrees left they are different to when 20 deg right.

There is a problem here. I have never found a garage that has geometry equipment that will fit 10" wheels. The is, therefore, no way that they could have measured it.

With some string, 4 axle stands, a set square, a ruler, a sprit level and a spare afternoon, you can do it yourself.

You can see how I do it in the picture (old car, years ago, but I still use the same sticks and string.)

Yes the "string computer" works really well, and if you want a job done well do it yourself.

I cannever remember off the top of my head. It says the toe setting in the Haynes. Slight toe-out. This is the best starting point.

1/16" toe out I think?

The tracking gauges I have on loan off my Dad fit 10" wheels with no problem, they are the fairly common Dunlop optical type that you see fairly regularly, though I can't comment on tyre places not being able to track 10" wheels as I've always done it myself....

Hi,
My local cheap and cheerful tyre place did my tracking ok, once I'd shown the kid how to slacken off the locknuts without rounding them off! *oh well*
Cheers,
Gavin :)
