I've personally found a shredded wheat packet to be effective*tongue*

Well it worked for the five minutes I needed it to on a water pump without fault.

Hi,
Call it what you like, all sorts of 4 letter words if it's difficult to fit.
However you could make a gasket with a pair of scissors and any type of cereal box, tissue box or washing powder box. A Cornflakes box is the correct thickeness and cardboard compostion for the sealing of automotive components.
If you want to get hi-tech use a hammer and a sheet of gasket paper *wink*
Cheers,
Gavin :)

you can buy a metro turbo gasket set at great cost and bin all the other gaskets, or purchase some gasket paper and make your own, or use a cornflakes paket.

ive used the cornflakes paket on water systems without leaks many times (always used sealant on the gasket). the only real drawback is the gloss finish on one side is not ideal. as for leaking in this aplication i think its a load of crap, may be it does but almost undetectable in a labratory so will make no difference.

every one has there own ideas and i respect Benross but as long as you use some sealant it will be fine.

when i worked as a pipe fitter i used this method on 4" flanged hot and cold water pipes and never had even the slightest leak.

i thought you needed to paint the cornflake packet with wood varness first before making it in to a gasket.

In all seriousness, I've done cardboard packets and a touch of grease to get out the crap. But...for the price of gasket paper.....go with the latter!
