Hello people!

Before I go and spam my problem I thought I better introduce myself, im Ben, I live outside of Portsmouth in Horndean.

Im building a 1330 stage 4 CLubman at the moment. Its in abit of a bare state at the moment, with loads of bits in boxes everywhere, but its taking a while as I have to use the money I get from working at asda while im at university. And im doing everything myself, so heres what ive done so far, as far as the body is concered.

Weber box fitted (yes I know, its not a turbo!)

Smoothed the rear, and ive also made the boot so theres no lock visable on the outside at all, just the two hinges.

Ive got the short motor and the gear box built in a bag aswell, although, theres something up with the gearbox, but I will make a new Topic about that when im round to sorting it, lol.

Well on to the problem, basically, ive bought a new rear beam axle, along with new everyhting else, and ive tried to fit the radius arms to find the knuckle that the cones fit into hits the beam axle. Are you suppose to cut the knuckle part off of the radius arm? I obviously dont need them any more as I have coil overs. But I just wanted to check before I go and cut my new radius arms up!

Thanks in advance.

Ben.

Remember to strengthen the damper mounts, or they will inevitably break!

A couple of threads on that already but most make up a braket of the back-plate bolts to share some of the load. Only really a problem if you have a weighty car or a fat arse (like mine) ... lol

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

Vegard means that one should strengthen the towers where the coil overs mount the the car. He has had a car with coil overs lifted the rear wheel wells of the bootfloor.

Well, ive defeated the radius arms.

So, is it where the coilover mounts to the car that is strengthend?

I suppose it can be strengthend with a plate on both sides.

and

Anyone done this before?

Is it wise to put a piece of tube between the tops of the 2 tower tops? Abit of extra strength. Lose boot space though...

Nice clubman...top marks m8 *happy*

I was thinking about doing what you said butterpoppy, the only obvious thing is the standard fuel tank wont fit....

So ive decided to buy a fuel cell to fit around it.

Also, does anyone have any pictures of re-inforcements they have done for this?

Im not sure, are we talking just abit of plate to stiffen it slightly? Or a framework taking up all the bootspace?

Also I think some one brought up in a past coilover thread, making up supports off the brake back plate to support the pin on the radius arm where the shock mounts, as this may be a weak point.

I think that supporting the lower pin is what Roger was referring to at the top of this thread.
Regarding the brace bar between the inner arches, I cant see what this would achieve. There is no side loading on them, all the load is vertical and any extra bracing should take this into account.

Dave

Danboy is right .... if you have a cage extend it through to the arch tops to help support the loads from coil overs.

If you have no cage then beef that area up as much as you can.

As far as beefing up the pin is concerned I will take some pics off my own car (if it's still there ... not even been past the lock up in the last 3 years!!!!!!!).
When I rebuild her I'll use the pin from Specialist Components ... but will still brace it.
