My laptop is dying, i was using it, when it flashed up i had no firewall, and then the whole virus software seemed to crash on me.
It then kept flashing up the windows installer window.

In a panic i reset it, and then couldnt get no joy with it, as on the 'welcome to windows' screen the installer would pop up again and lock up, or if i could press cancel it would lock up again.

I got into windows using safe mode, and whenever i do anything with the virus package the installer appears.
I then went to control panel to uninstall the package, but again the windows installer pops up and locks the thing up.
I can uninstall other programs though

How can i get rid of this stupid software?

Its CA security centre, if that makes any difference (and ive been less than impressed by it since the start)

basically whenever i startup the computer normally, or attempt to do anything with the software it goes beserk popping up the windows installer

Try control alt delete, then end all applications. Then stop the processes in use by the CA, you may need to look it up on the net. Then you should be able to uninstall it...

what do i type into the run command to alter the things that run at start up?

The CA, and Windows installer are the only applications running, processes-there are loads of them!!!!!!

oooh i cant bring myself to format it yet

removing this sort of thing is TEDIOUS, but do-able. find out what processes are running and get on a clean computer with net access and start researching :)

It's probably all that dodgy porn on your computer doing it dude.

My whole computer crashed the otherday it wouldnt even load windows. I phoned a comper specialist and explained the fault over the phone, and he estimated about £150 to fix the fault.....

I took it to a kid at work and all he did was wipe windows off and re-install it. The computer works perfect now, best performance i've ever had out of it.

If you no how to do it then wipe everything and start again :)

to configure processes that run on start up type msconfig in the run box.

I run Ubuntu Linux on my laptop and never have a problem. My mum and auntie get along with it fine also.

What benross said mate, copy your work off in safe mode (like using a usb pen) and reformat it

Use AVG and Superantispyware in the future, both free and work.

Like Webba says, boot in safe mode, copy off your porn, then format it. You will get the best performance this way.

Ive gone into that msconfig (cheers!) and disabled all the ca stuff

Now at the start up screen it says installing ca firewall, but then it cant find it. So i cancel that and i can get into windows fine.

Ill make the back up, and then try and reinstall the firewall

mine does that at the minute. computers running a bit slow, but everything is working.
The window installer window keeps coming up every hour or so. i cancel it and it goes away for an hour!
(i just cant be bothered to back everything up yet!)

If that fails like Benross said, delete Microsoft Office and re-install only takes about 20mins and I had the exact same problem on my PC at home... its a pain in the ass
