Well - finally got round to setting the car up. This is a 1293cc fast road spec 8V BMW twin cam headed A series - as per my build guide.

1293cc/21253 pistons 10:1 cr
K100 STANDRD _ NO PORTING 8v head
std cams
std 33mm throttle bodies
med crank+strap
MED flywheel assy
helical box/drops
4 pin diff
3.44 diff
full SC conversion kit
SC ecu and loom

Well what about those curves for OEM quality! - have your cake and eating it is the phrase that springs to mind. ticks over at 900rpm, pure grunt from 1000rpm all the way to 7500rpm - massive spread of power - on the road its fantastic, any gear, any revs, flat or hilly, tickle the pedal and she's off. Emmisions compliant to current regs, starts from cold on the button etc

This is a proper fast road engine no driveability issues but screams to 7500 when you want it. the torque curve proves you can get mega torque without a plenum as well

cheers

John

Is there any reason that the two curves do not cross at 5250 rpm?
Should be a fabulous set up.
What is the next one on the rollers? Turbo?

Dave

Nice John!

Danboy, I guess the reason is that the torque and power have different Y axis.

Different scales for power and torque, see power on LHS, torque RHS

very impressive, how flat is that torque curve!

i'm guessing that the bump around 3k is due to exhaust lengths?

yes - its either the exhaust or inlet tuned length pulse, but it is an incredibly smooth curve

flat is the word! - its really nice how it hangs on at the top end as well

john , have you any more map of power below 2800? what was the correction factor ,eg bhp before correction ,and what were the losses ,eg what bhp and torque at the wheels ?
great to see some more graphs on the site .

ta!

Robert - I have a file of info from the guys at APT (really good guys and they let us loose running their very posh dyno dynamics kit!) which I'll have to make sense of - I've dug the bit out before 2800 I can find
bhp
2379 23.1
2447 27.0
2520 30.0
2602 32.6
2678 35.4
2746 38.2
2824 40.6

cheers

thanks john thats great , i m interested in the 1 to 3 k area ,with bike heads and thier design the lower rpm point is where i could see a drawback so wanted to compare with the a series at those points ,the revving on is where you really gain with the bike head and is almost a given .
if i know the correction factors i can also do some more accurate comparisons and the losses method varies from dyno make to make ,so i can interpolate to other dynos if i know what your wheel power was as opposed to at the crank .

regards robert.
oh i was wondering could that hump be a lower gear ?and then a change of gear to the one the run was done in ?alternatively ,long inlet tracts or primary pipes could create that ,something in the region of 38 to 42 inch primaries . or 15 inch inlets ,but i wouldnt think yuod be running those ,at least not with the bonnet on !!*smiley*

thans guys - yes the APT boys are really goo - can't recomend them enough for tuning/ rolling road

Robert - the low speed tractability/pulling is not a problem, the dyno run was started at circa 2000rpm - hence there aren't any figs before this, but the car is great from tickover - the nicest mini "road" engine I've ever driven.

Go on Jim - drop one on your dads car!

Hi,
That's fantastic, very close to figures for a 286 cammed 1380 with a 45 on! Like you say with the long flat torque curve it makes a great road engine.
Cheers,
Gavin :)
