Received my SC transfer gear today from minispares. Unpacked the idler gear and saw that the shaft was slightly damaged.*angry*

I think it is still usable, what do you think (considering that sending it back is quite expensive from the netherlands and I'd like to drive my car again asap..)?

Btw (asked this question in another topic as well, sorry) how do you install these gears??

That will be fine,

I'd remove that part (so you can't get crap in the bearing) and dress the "nick" with a file or dremel.

I have yet to fit my identical idler, but i was told that it is wise to drill the gearbox web and fit a grub screw to keep the inner part from rotating in the gearbox case.

Hi,
Just remove any rough edges and install. How you fit them I've no idea!
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

nico that nick is nothing as it does not rotate buddy

remove the old bearings from the gearbox case and clutch cover

now fit the bearing in the garbox and fit the cover with gasket to the gearbox

now make the gear eqadistant from the cover and gearbox so the are the same distance both sides

measure,

now remove the cover and use some strong locktight or bearing fit max strenght fit the bearing into the gearbox case with the locktight using the same distance as described above

allow to cure over night you can also fit say a m4 or m5 grubscrew into the gearbox side to stop this rotating extra if you wish!

but i found out it did not need one with the locktight

dont fit any loctight into the cover or you will never get the cover off in the future......locktight in the cover its not needed

hope this helps
