All was going well... untill I got it made up and the baulk rings are too tight.

I've done some searches and seen some of you guys have had the problem before, but didn't really understand the answer other than putting old rings back in.

I'm using genuine rings at the moment and Richard at Minispares North reckons I may need the competition ones as he's seen the problem before.

Any other ideas?

Cheers,

Nick.

Hi,
It's true, if you put a full set in it all jams up.
I know people put some old ones back in, as to which ones I don't know....
Cheers,
Gavin :)

Doncaster, South Yorkshire

Did all the gearboxes at the factory jam up when they were first assembled?
What's wrong now that was OK then?
Regards
Dave

Hi,
I'm guessing here 'cause I know nowt about boxes. I imagine it's to do with the SC gearset as the factory didn't fit them?
Cheers,
Gavin :)

It'll loosen up pretty quickly in the car, 2nd and 4th gear baulks take the worst hammering so if you wanted to leave 1st and 3rd in you probably could, depending on how they looked.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

re fit the old ones if they are not totally goosed as i did

2nd gear i had trouble with on the clubman set

this is using the old baulk rings
*surprised*
i got another baulk ring from another box and alls well *happy*

or take richards advice *indifferent*

its the machining on the SC set up which differs, CNC and all that maybe worn tooling

stowmaket suffolk

common problem is lavk of oil on assembly and the stick to the cones.

use plenty of oil then just gently prize away from the gear cone then they will be ok. unless you have stuck a syncro round the wrong way.

i have never had a problem yet when fitting new baulk rings.

always looking for them bigger bunches of bannanas
