What should I set the timing to for the lucas electronic distributor Number 42662A. I've had the engine running but it won't rev above what must be about 1500 rpm and if I advance it too much it pinks.

Also would it be worth setting it a degree or two lower than the book as it is a n/a distributor in a turbo engine. I am not connecting the advance hose.

I want to see if the engine smokes when giving it some serious welly in an attempt to narrow my compression problem, considering it doesn't smoke whatsoever on idle.

Lets hope the welly doesn't turn the comp problem into a terminal one!

I just found this on an old thread, Is it possible the factory stamped it wrong? because the number stamped on it is 42662 and the engine it came off should have number 42626.

Thanks

Oh yes, I do have a mk1 turbo distributor but with no ignition module, could I make this work without it or just stick with the n/a one for now. The engine isn't in a car by the way so I will just be warming the engine up and then giving it some.

Mitsi Evo 7, 911, Cossie. & all the chavs ...... won no problem

the smoking engine will be the rings

time the distrib in at 6 DBTDC at 1000 rpm

vacume disconected

then use the vacume this means more MPG

I doubt the factory got it wrong!

set it so there is a maximum of 28 degrees advance... the idle figure is less important.

the problem is It won't rev and dies when off choke, Must be fueling related then. possibly not helped by only 3 cylinders doing something.

When I try to rev it it sounds like it tries to backfire through the manifold and dies, even if probed very slowly

Tried everyting, just want to put some load onto it to see if that highlights anything.

It still dies with the backfire through the carb mouth on choke

and set fuel pressure to 4 psi
