Just a few questions that have been bothering me latley, first up, i remember a bloke once telling me that running a centre punch across the inside of an inlet manifold to "roughen up" the face that the fuel air mixture runs across could improved combustion by mixing the air and fuel together better, is this true? and if so would it be worth while doing to a turbo inlet manifold?

The other thing i'v been thinking about is the sort of heat i would trap in the inlet by polishing and chroming the outside of the inlet manifold, reducing the surface area on the outside of the manifold would reduce it's ability to shed heat im guessing(?), but by how much, would it be noticable when running a deasent IC and bonnet scoop? I dont even know if i wana polish and chrome the manifold, im just after oppinions?

Cheer's. Chris

(is this thread better off in technical chat??)

That first comment would be true - if your inlet was nicely polished on the inside - but you'll get similar results just by giving it a rough finish with grinding stones

As for how much heat it would "trap" ? I'm guessing not even enough to measure, but I could be proved wrong if someone would be willing to experiment?

No point in trying to trap heat in the inlet manifold, it will just reduce your power potential.

You want to lose heat, that's why we use Intercoolers.

yea, thats what i was gettin at, trying to weigh up the "pretty" value against power loss, i was thinking with a bonnet scoop and IC, the difference wouldnt realy be noticable?

Cheer's for the speedy comments. Chris

took me ages to get that inlet and dashpot polished up, still loads of bits on the inlet that i couldn't get the polishing wheels into, but it's covered up by my IC pipes anyway *tongue*
