Love it.

Another new creation from Robert.

Do you think you can weld it up OK?

Interesting.

Are these NLA once again or somet?

90-degree on the planet pins is not the best solution however - reference the latest generation of cross-pin diffs.

um time will tell welding wize , im thinking of old school arc with a special rod ,it seems to grind like forged steel and the marks on it support that ,as long as its not cast iron ithink itll be ok !!!:)

i can move the piece to be welded around the circumference till its at the angle of the new diffs , i think its 5.5 degrees do you know for sure ?

I would count the number of teeth on the output shaft, divide that into 360 then divide by 4.

EDIT: Ignore the above - there is more to this than meets the eye!

damn right !lol
im going to run the planets round till they run smoothly axel ,and are not at 90 degr ,that will mimic the later evo ones i feel ,its very obvious when they arent runnig smoothly cos they arent meshing properly ,then weld them there .

If i had time to sit down and figure this out, it wouldn't be that difficult to work out I'm sure?
I'm sure this is within your capability. Put a pad of paper and pen next to your cludgy and next time you're settling down to 'business' you'll probably figure it out before its time to wipe... LOL

I might be over thinking things again but would you not need to pin the two stubby pinion shafts to the cross shaft to gain enough rigidity to make a real difference?

Just a thought

Every day is a school day ...........

How fast and how expensive ...... the same question...

do you know dave , i havent even bothered to work it out !lol
, i know there are a certain nos of places where all the gears will mesh ok ,and one of them is at 90 degrees ,so ill just move it round the clock one segment till its smoothly running again ,and that ll be where it welded !

Fastest A Series Mini in the World

leeds/wakefield.

well roberd you will mhasve most certainlty created an LSD by the time you weld that lot up, there will be so much distorsion that the planet gears will either struggle to ,or refuse to rotate on there shafts, thus creating the lincoln diff scenario,[planet gears wedged up tight together , creating friction .]

but top marks as dave says for thinking.

definately true roger ,this stage in the proceedings was simply the result of idea at lunchtime ,angle grinder for an hour after lunch ,
my plan is to tig a big support on each side of the planet spacer ,and i mean big as i can ,with a lot of tig .this part is vital
if i cant do it so it looks right ill make one from scratch .

yes that could well be true carl ,,time will tell , im thinking that ,with it all bolted tight to the ring gear ,it will maybe could be stay straight ,
still thats what research is all about ,finding out what doesnt work !

I wish somebody would tell my boss that.

He thinksit means sending the customer loads of unvalidated samples to a single design and hoping for the best.

Why I am bored 5h1t-less and am thinking through so much Mini related stuff!!!!!

Good luck with it mate!

hmmm i think this may be a dead end .if you have to buy all the pins ,planets and washers etc ,it works out at around 75 to 90 quid ,so you save 80 quid ...but....its not a dead cert .. i was thinking i can get some good planets from stuff down the yard etc . I DONT THINK SO !!
now taken 3 diffs apart ,all the planets are sad sick or on thier way there so its not looking too viable from a cost /worry quotient !

see what i mean .*frown**oh well*
