Having just bent a half inch ish bar in half trying to undo the pulley bolt I am a bit stuck as to where to go next.

Surely heat will do nothing for the bolt as it will simply expand at the same rate/before the crank nose does.

Also just to confirm, as its been 2 years since I stripped an engine the bolt un does anti clockwise8-)

What is the best way to undo this annoying bolt?

You have bent the locktab back right?

If so,

Impact wrench, and or blow torch, or a TIG if you have access*wink*

In the garage......again!!

if the engine is out, take it down to your local tyre place, ask em nicely to remove it with the windy gun, would help if you took the right size socket for them to use.

if its in the car, a breaker bar with a scaffold pole on the end will def shift it, as long as the flywheel is locked through the starter motor.

Lol..Ive not heard that expression for ages...it is true then. Lol

Try a bit of heat first but if that fails I'd drill it then split the head of the bolt with a hammer and chisel (or best hitting srewdriver). *tongue*

I have now tried heat and a tickle with a chisel. I will ring someone I know to see if I can borrow one of his compressors and a windy gun.

Failing that a bigger hammer should do the job!

Also I need a new bar as it didn't like being hit with a sledge hammer.

Sold the turbo and seeing what the C20XE can do!

Near Lincoln

windy gun is the best bet for sure. love it!

i've had a fair few bolts in my past with big chisel marks in them where someone hasnt been able to get it off.

i'm only a very lil chap & i use a 10ft scaff pole, works a treat, i've just got a bigger compressor & a cheapo windy gun & sand-blasting from Aldi! so i think it'll be worth the investment, windy-gu shock tactics seem to do the trick most times!

i've heard of this errr method too! not tried it but if it can be done in a sort of measured way then......thats ok if you have no other means to i spose!

tight bolts are hard work for a little chap hehe *tongue*

the Search-section on this forum is blummin superb & simple to use, unlike some other forums, without the search-section & the help of this bunch of chaps on here i'll never be able to !!!Start the day with a 998cc turbo!!! :) i'm getting closer though!
